In a significant development, Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has been enlisted in the coaching staff of the England men’s cricket team, gearing up for a challenging five-match Test series against India, commencing on January 25. Karthik will play a pivotal role as a batting consultant during the initial nine days of the England Lions tour to India.

Mo Bobat, England Men’s Performance Director, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s great to have such a strong coaching group supporting our players for what should be an exciting challenge versus India A. The group has a deep and diverse set of experiences and expertise.” The series opener is scheduled for January 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Karthik will serve as a batting consultant until January 18, after which Ian Bell is set to join the squad following his assistant coaching stint with Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s Big Bash League.

Although the wicketkeeper batter is yet to officially announce his retirement from international cricket, his last appearance for India was in the 2022 T20I World Cup against Bangladesh. Notably, his final Test appearance dates back to 2018, incidentally against England. Despite this, Karthik continues to actively represent his state, adding an intriguing layer to his cricketing journey.
