The Euro 2024 has kicked-off in Germany. Even as the tournament is underway, let us have a look at the iconic stadiums in Germany that will host matches of the European Championship.

Olympiastadion Berlin

The Olympiastadion is the most renowned stadium of Germany. It was opened in 1936 and holds a historical significance. It is connected with  the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.

With a sitting capacity of 71, 000, Olympiastadion was used as a venue for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and hosted the final match of the tournament. It has also hosted the final of every German Cup since 1985.

Olympiastadion will also host the final of the Euro 2024 on 16th July.

Officially named Signal Iduna Park, Germany’s largest stadium is known for its electrifying atmosphere. The stadium was built in 1974 to host matches of the FIFA World Cup that year.

The stadium stands on a four roofed grandstand with the eastern and western stands running the entire length of the field, while the breadth is covered by the north and south stands.  

It hosted the 2021 UEFA Cup final. With a capacity of 62,000, the stadium promises a thrilling experience to fans.

Frankfurt Arena 

Built in 1925, the Frankfurt Arena has evolved with time.  Also known as the Waldstadion, the stadium has been through several upgrades.

Most recently, it has been remodeled as a football-only stadium arena. The center of attraction at the 47,000 capacity stadium is the retractable roof that folds into a giant scoreboard.

The arena has its own railway station on the national rail network.

Frankfurt Arena hosted the 1988 Euro Championship and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. It was a venue for the NFL Germany Games.

Munich Football Arena

Primarily known as the Allianz Arena, the Munich Football Arena is the most modern football stadium in Germany.

With a capacity of 66,000, the Allianz Arena smacks of grandeur. The highlight of the stadium is the exterior with plastic panels. It is the first stadium in the world with a full color changing exterior.

The arena was a venue to the 2012 Champions League Final. The stadium hosted the opening match of Euro 2024 between Germany and Scotland.

Leipzig Stadium

Better known as Red Bull Arena by fans, Leipzig Stadium was opened in 2004.

It was previously known as Zentralstadion. In 1956, when the Zentralstadion opened, it was one of the biggest stadiums in Europe being able to hold 100,000 spectators.
