Iowa honors Caitlin Clark’s NCAA scoring record with logo on court
Caitlin Clark’s journey as a basketball phenom continues to astound as she etches her name into the annals of NCAA Division-I history with each game she plays for Iowa.
On February 15th, Clark achieved a monumental feat by becoming the all-time leading scorer in women’s NCAA Division-I basketball, surpassing the record set by Kelsey Plum, a former University of Washington standout and current Las Vegas Aces star, with 3,527 points. Clark’s record-breaking moment was nothing short of spectacular, as she showcased her incredible shooting range by sinking a deep 3-pointer from beyond halfcourt.
In recognition of her remarkable achievement, the Iowa Hawkeyes paid tribute to their star guard by unveiling a special on-court logo at Carver-Hawkeye Arena ahead of their game against Illinois. The logo, featuring Clark’s jersey number 22, was strategically placed on the court at the exact spot where she made her historic record-breaking shot. It’s a subtle yet meaningful gesture that ensures Clark’s lasting impact is felt every time the team takes to their home floor.
The significance of this honor isn’t lost on anyone. Clark’s incredible talent and unmatched skill have captivated basketball fans nationwide, solidifying her status as one of the most dominant players in the game today. With eye-popping statistics averaging 32.1 points and 8.5 assists per game, Clark is on the verge of making history once again by potentially becoming the first women’s Division-I player to lead the nation in both scoring and assists.
But Clark’s pursuit of greatness doesn’t stop there. With just two regular-season games, the Big Ten Tournament, and the NCAA Tournament remaining, she stands on the cusp of eclipsing another monumental milestone: “Pistol” Pete Maravich’s all-time Division-I NCAA scoring record. Currently sitting at 3,617 points following her 24-point performance against Illinois, Clark is just 51 points away from surpassing Maravich’s record of 3,667 points.
With her unparalleled talent and determination, it’s only a matter of time before Caitlin Clark etches her name in the history books once again, solidifying her legacy as one of the greatest to ever grace the collegiate hardwood.
