Ineos Group, now overseeing football operations at Manchester United, has reportedly focused exclusively on Ashworth for the role, displaying a high level of assurance in their pursuit. Sources reveal that no alternatives have been considered, with Ashworth emerging as the sole target for the prestigious position.

However, Ashworth’s transition to Manchester United is not expected to be immediate, as he would need to serve a lengthy period of gardening leave before assuming the role. This delay is in line with standard procedures for personnel changes of this nature.

The impending arrival of Ashworth comes amidst other significant developments at Manchester United, including the recent appointment of Omar Berrada as chief executive.
