Mpower, spearheaded by Mrs. Neerja Birla, Founder, and Chairperson of Aditya Birla Education Trust, aims to unite over 200 professional cyclists and fitness enthusiasts for a cyclothon in support of mental well-being.
In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting mental health awareness, Mpower, the renowned mental healthcare initiative by the Aditya Birla Education Trust, has announced the eagerly anticipated 5th edition of ‘Ride to Mpower.’ Scheduled to take place on the 24th and 25th of February, this charitable cycling event will see participants pedal across a challenging 170-kilometer route from Pune to Mumbai. Spearheaded by Mrs. Neerja Birla, Founder, and Chairperson of Aditya Birla Education Trust, the cyclothon aims to unite over 200 professional cyclists and fitness enthusiasts in support of mental well-being.
More than just a cycling event, ‘Ride to Mpower’ represents a collective effort to raise awareness about mental health issues and to destigmatize conversations surrounding them. Over the years, the initiative has garnered recognition for its impactful contributions to mental health advocacy, emphasizing the crucial link between physical and mental well-being.
Recent observations at the Mpower Center in Pune have highlighted the urgent need for mental health support within the city. Data collected by Mpower’s team of psychiatrists and psychologists underscores the prevalence of stress, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal issues among individuals aged 20 to 45 in Pune. Against the backdrop of Pune’s dynamic cultural landscape, characterized by high work pressure and demanding lifestyles, ‘Ride to Mpower’ assumes greater significance as a platform for initiating conversations and fostering understanding about mental health challenges.
Ms. Parveen Shaikh, Vice President of operations at Mpower, emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing mental health concerns. She highlighted the role of physical activities like cycling in promoting mental well-being, particularly during stressful periods such as the exam season. Through ‘Ride to Mpower,’ Ms. Shaikh aims to raise awareness about mental health and encourage individuals to prioritize their well-being.
Cyclists participating in the event shared their motivations for joining the cause. ProCyclist Siddarth Bhamre expressed his commitment to destigmatizing mental health, while Purushrut Khillari highlighted the importance of sparking meaningful conversations about mental well-being.
