Tragedy Strikes at Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl Parade: One Dead, 22 Injured in Shooting

The joyous atmosphere of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade turned into a scene of tragedy on Wednesday as gunshots rang out near Union Station, leaving one person dead and 22 others wounded. Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves confirmed the devastating news in a press conference, revealing that among the injured were children as young as 8 years old.
The shooting occurred west of Union Station near the garage, where chaos erupted as shots were fired into the crowd. Three individuals, including two juveniles, were initially detained, and firearms were recovered at the scene. Authorities later announced that two juveniles have been charged in connection with the shooting, facing gun-related and resisting arrest charges.
The victim who lost her life in the senseless act of violence was identified as Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother and prominent Kansas City radio DJ. The incident has left the community in mourning, with heartfelt condolences pouring in for the victims and their families.
According to reports, eight of the victims sustained immediately life-threatening injuries, while seven others suffered life-threatening injuries, and six had minor injuries. Children’s Mercy Hospital treated 12 children, nine of whom had gunshot wounds, though none were in critical condition. Fortunately, all patients were expected to recover, bringing a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene, working to secure Union Station and assist those in need. The Kansas City Police Department urged the public to exit the area safely and quickly to facilitate the treatment of victims. Additionally, they established child reunification stations to assist those needing reunification with their families.
