One of the things that led him to achieve what he did in his career is his sheer competitiveness. The same was recently on display as he beefed with social media star turned WWE superstar, Logan Paul.

Well, it wasn’t exactly a beef, but it gave fans something to talk about. It all started when Brady appeared on Paul’s podcast and called Paul’s WWE career “cute”. That seemed to have rattled ‘The Maverick’ who in the subsequent episode called out NFL stars for a boxing matchup and bet $1 million to whoever beat him.

Paul’s comments quickly spread like wildfire and garnered a lot of reactions from current and former NFL players. While the matchup never ended up happening, he was seen playing against some NFL stars, including Tom Brady, at a Fanatics Flag Football exhibition game recently.

What happened between Tom Brady and Logan Paul at the Flag Football game?

The exhibition game featured several NFL stars and celebrities, and it was meant to promote flag football ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics. Brady and Paul played on opposing teams, which added extra excitement given their recent back-and-forth.

In a surprising turn, Logan Paul’s team actually defeated Tom Brady’s team, giving Paul bragging rights. As expected, he took to social media to celebrate and claim that he had “beaten Tom Brady,” which quickly caught fans’ attention.

Logan Paul just tried to fight Tom Brady during their flag football game 😭 pic.twitter.com/VsaV2icZdx

— Happy Punch (@HappyPunch) March 21, 2026

There was also a brief, heated moment during the game when Brady jokingly threw a ball toward Paul after a play. Paul didn’t take it lightly, and the two exchanged words before things were quickly calmed down. While it didn’t turn into anything serious, it showed that both were fully locked in and competitive.

Despite the tension on the surface, Brady later acknowledged Paul’s effort and even praised his performance. It was a small but notable sign of respect between the two.

In the end, what started as a light comment on a podcast turned into viral trash talk, a competitive on-field moment, and plenty of entertainment for fans.

They can nominate one player from each team, with instructions to count their vote for the player on the winning team. Voters cannot select an entire unit.

The Super Bowl MVP has been awarded annually since the game’s inception in 1967. Tom Brady has the most Super Bowl MVPs in NFL history, having won five awards in his seven victories. Brady clears second on the list by two, as Patrick Mahomes and Joe Montana both have three Super Bowl MVP awards.

That award usually means that a player was a crucial part to their team’s championship victory, typically representing the best player on the best team in the Super Bowl. Normally, this award goes to a quarterback, but any player who has a standout performance in the Super Bowl is eligible to win the award.

There are some exclusive clubs in the NFL, but the club of Super Bowl MVPs is one of the most exclusive.

The France rugby squad has received a major boost following a new agreement with the Top 14 league while preparing for the 2025 New Zealand Tour. This deal means that some of France’s top players could be available to face the All Blacks this July, improving a squad that was initially expected to be mostly second-string.

A New Level of Cooperation

In previous years, the overlap between the Top 14 play-offs and France’s summer tours forced the France rugby squad to travel without many of its star players, due to club commitments and concerns about player fatigue. However, the French Rugby Federation (FFR) and the Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR) have now agreed to allow several key players to join the tour, provided they have not played too much during the season.

Jean-Marc Lhermet, vice-president of the FFR, said, “This agreement perfectly shows the shared wish of the FFR and the LNR to combine sporting performance and player protection. By keeping the balance between the demands of the calendars and the need to manage players’ playing time, we are giving the French team the chance to prepare for this tour to New Zealand with ambition and calm. This new system shows our ability to work together, for the good of French rugby and its players.”

Squad Details and Selection

The 42-man France rugby squad will mostly include players who were used very little or did not feature in the Six Nations.

Up to five players from each of the two Top 14 finalist clubs can be selected, as long as they have not been overplayed during the season.

Some star players who have played heavily are still expected to be rested.

Injuries to key players like Romain Ntamack and Antoine Dupont mean they are unlikely to be part of the tour.

The agreement balances player welfare with the need to field a competitive France rugby squad.

Tour Fixtures

The France rugby squad will face the All Blacks in a three-Test series starting on 5 July:

5 July: Dunedin

12 July: Wellington

19 July: Hamilton

All matches will be played in New Zealand, with no games scheduled in the United States due to travel concerns.

Context and Expectations

While some people raised questions on whether the France rugby squad will be at full strength, the agreement is seen as a positive step for French rugby. It protects players from burnout while allowing the team to build depth ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Looking Forward

The 2025 New Zealand tour will be an important test for the France rugby squad, blending experienced players with emerging talent. With recent successes against the All Blacks, the squad looks set to put up a strong challenge in one of rugby’s toughest environments.

As Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana in 2005, over 20,000 individuals found refuge in the Superdome, home to the New Orleans Saints.

Now, almost two decades later, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Football League (NFL) are collaborating to transform stadiums across the nation into emergency shelters, temporary hospitals, and other necessary facilities during disasters. This initiative, announced as Florida braces for a significant hurricane and floodwaters from Hurricane Francine inundate Louisiana, aims to enhance community preparedness for catastrophic events.

Improving Preparedness for Future Disasters

Previous efforts to utilize stadiums as shelters have often encountered challenges, primarily due to poor preparation. For example, officials in New Orleans noted that the Superdome was designed to be a “last resort” shelter, but it lacked sufficient food, water, and supplies for the thousands who sought safety there.

In a recent interview, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell explained that this new initiative will help local officials prepare better, preventing them from scrambling during crises. “The biggest difference between this and Hurricane Katrina is that we’re planning ahead,” she said. “We will understand the capabilities of each stadium and work with them to address the threats faced by their cities.”

Criswell pointed out that during her tenure as New York City’s emergency management chief from 2019 to 2021, stadiums were effectively used as temporary hospitals and vaccination sites during the COVID-19 pandemic. This experience inspired the current initiative. The NFL approached FEMA with this idea nearly three years ago.

“It just made perfect sense,” Criswell noted, expressing hope that Major League Baseball and other sports leagues would adopt similar measures. “We have all these existing venues. How can we coordinate better during peaceful times to understand their capabilities and how we might utilize them in the future?”

Formalizing the Partnership

Cathy L. Lanier, the NFL’s chief security officer and former D.C. police chief, described the partnership as “an obvious fit.” The agreement was formalized on Tuesday with a memorandum of understanding signed at NFL headquarters in New York City, in the presence of longtime NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

According to Jaclyn Rothenberg, FEMA’s director of public affairs, stadiums will be accessible year-round. The costs associated with operating these temporary shelters during federally declared disasters will be negotiated among local, state, and federal officials. These venues may also serve as staging areas for generators or command-and-control centers.

As climate change intensifies the impact of hurricanes, wildfires, and floods, the challenge of evacuating and sheltering thousands of people grows, particularly for local governments with limited emergency management budgets. One significant hurdle is securing large spaces and hotels to accommodate these individuals and finding the necessary funds to support them for extended periods.

For instance, when Hurricane Ian struck Lee County, Florida, in 2022, residents had to travel long distances to find available hotels, many of which were fully booked. Consequently, some were forced to remain in shelters for weeks, and Lee County faced staffing shortages at these facilities. Similarly, Hurricane Laura impacted Louisiana in August 2020, severely affecting Black and low-income neighborhoods, with many vulnerable individuals needing to travel hundreds of miles to find safety.

Addressing Concerns and Challenges

Disaster experts believe that designating NFL stadiums as resource storage and emergency operations centers could significantly aid during severe weather events. However, they acknowledge potential resistance to the idea. Doug Quinn, CEO of United Survivors Disaster Relief, noted that the trauma from experiences during Katrina could deter individuals from using these shelters, particularly in Florida and Louisiana. “There is still collective trauma from what happened there. How willing will people be to go to a shelter like that?”

Quinn added that those seeking shelter often belong to vulnerable populations, including the elderly and low-income individuals, making it crucial to ensure their safety and well-being.

Mike Sage, an emergency preparedness expert with the Public Health Institute, pointed out that maintaining privacy and proper hygiene for shelter residents could be challenging. He suggested using individual tents to address this concern. “If you just line up cots along the football field for thousands of people, it’s manageable for a few days,” he explained. “But for longer stays, comfort becomes essential.”

Sage emphasized the importance of testing stadiums’ capacity to function during disasters, including their ability to provide electricity when the grid goes down.

Participating Stadiums

MetLife Stadium in New Jersey

So far, four stadiums have committed to this initiative: MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home to the Jets and Giants; Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, home to the Steelers; Lumen Field in Seattle, home to the Seahawks; and Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, which hosts the Buccaneers. SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, home to the Rams and Chargers, is expected to join soon.

SoFi Stadium was designed to endure earthquakes, featuring a 100-foot-deep, 12-foot-wide “seismic moat” that allows the stadium and roof to move independently during seismic events. Raymond James Stadium, located in an area frequently hit by hurricanes, was fortunate to escape severe damage from Hurricane Ian in 2022. However, a potentially significant hurricane, expected to be named Helene, is predicted to rapidly intensify in the Gulf of Mexico before reaching Florida.

Criswell stated that local officials “already have some ideas” for utilizing Raymond James if the storm strikes. However, she stressed the importance of following evacuation orders when necessary.

This marks the highest number of viewers for opening week since 2019.

NBC Takes the Lead with Most-Watched Game

Hans Schroeder, the executive vice president of NFL Media, expressed his excitement over the positive start. “It’s great to see such high numbers. We’re excited to be back,” he said in an interview with ESPN.

The most-watched game of the week was NBC’s broadcast of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens in the Thursday night opener. This game drew in an average of 29.2 million viewers, making it NBC’s second-most-watched regular-season game since 2006 when they started broadcasting Sunday Night Football.

The opening game on September 5 was available on NBC, Peacock, and other digital platforms. With 29.2 million people watching, the game had 9% more viewers compared to last year’s first game. On TV alone, 24.56 million viewers tuned in, while 4.64 million people streamed the game online. TV viewership was slightly down from last year’s 24.75 million, but streaming saw a huge 60% increase compared to last year.

Fox and Monday Night Football Perform Well

Monday Night Football

Fox’s Sunday afternoon game also attracted a large audience, especially because it marked Tom Brady’s debut in the commentary box. The game drew 23.93 million viewers, making it another hit of the week.

Both Monday Night Football and Sunday Night Football performed strongly as well. Monday Night Football had 20.5 million viewers across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and online streaming platforms. On the other hand, Sunday Night Football had 20 million viewers on NBC, and the total went up to 22.8 million when streaming numbers were added in.

Historic Game Broadcast from South America

For the first time in NFL history, a game was broadcast live from South America. The Philadelphia Eagles faced off against the Green Bay Packers in a game streamed live from Brazil. This game attracted 14 million viewers across Peacock and local Brazilian channels, which is almost double the audience from Peacock’s last game broadcasted in December 2023.

Amazon Prime’s Thursday Night Football

Week two of the NFL season began with Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime. The Buffalo Bills won against the Miami Dolphins with a score of 31-10. The game pulled in about 14.96 million viewers, making it the third-largest audience for a Thursday Night Football game on Amazon Prime since they started broadcasting. Although this was slightly less than last year’s opener, it was still well above the 2023 average of 11.83 million viewers.

New Streaming Plans for NFL

The NFL plans to continue pushing its streaming services later in the season. For the first time, two Christmas Day games will be streamed on Netflix, offering viewers more ways to watch their favourite teams.

Dallas Cowboys’ star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has been placed on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list. But what exactly does this mean, and how will it impact his playing status for the 2024 season? Let’s break down the key details regarding the NFL commissioner’s exempt list and its significance for players like Lamb.

What is the Commissioner’s Exempt List in the NFL?

The NFL commissioner’s exempt list is defined as a “special player status” reserved for unique situations, according to NFL.com. This list provides teams with roster flexibility by allowing them to remove a player from their 53-man active roster without the need for immediate replacement. However, players on this list are still part of the team, and their contracts remain active.

Unlike other forms of suspension or removal, the exempt list acts as a temporary placeholder rather than a punishment. Players on this list continue to receive their salary but are not allowed to play in any games during their time on it. It was designed to handle cases where a player’s circumstances require an extended leave from active participation, either due to personal conduct issues, legal matters, or physical concerns that need to be resolved before resuming play.

How Does the Commissioner’s Exempt List Work?

Players placed on the commissioner’s exempt list are essentially on paid leave. While they remain part of the team, they are not allowed to participate in games. However, they are still permitted to attend team meetings, and training sessions, and receive treatments at the team facility. This setup helps players stay engaged with the team and maintain their physical fitness during their absence, though they remain ineligible to compete on game day.

One important detail is that only NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has the authority to place a player on this list. Teams cannot unilaterally decide to move a player onto the exempt list. Once on the list, the commissioner has sole discretion over how long a player stays there and when they will be eligible to return to the active roster. This centralized decision-making ensures consistency across the league regarding player availability.

Reasons for Being Placed on the Exempt List

A player may be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list for a wide range of reasons. While the list is often used in situations involving legal or disciplinary issues, it has also been utilized for players dealing with personal matters or contractual disputes that result in temporary absences.

The exempt list became a more common tool after 2014 when then-Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was placed on the list for the entire season following child abuse allegations. This high-profile case set a precedent, and since then, the list has been employed more regularly in similar situations.

Notable players who have been placed on the list in the past include Michael Vick (2009) during his legal troubles, Jonathan Vilma (2012) for his role in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal, Greg Hardy (2014) for domestic violence charges, Josh Brown (2016), Reuben Foster (2018), and Kareem Hunt (2018).

Why is CeeDee Lamb on the Commissioner’s Exempt List?

CeeDee Lamb found himself on the commissioner’s exempt list when the Cowboys were granted a two-game roster exemption. This decision gave the team flexibility while Lamb, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, worked on returning to full form after missing training camp. The team avoided occupying a valuable roster spot with a player who wasn’t game-ready.

Lamb had held out of training camp due to contract negotiations but eventually agreed to a four-year, $136 million contract extension. The deal includes a record-breaking $38 million signing bonus for wide receivers and guarantees $100 million in total. His annual salary of $34 million makes Lamb the second-highest-paid receiver in the NFL, only trailing Minnesota Vikings’ star Justin Jefferson.

Impact of the Commissioner’s Exempt List on Lamb’s Season

Being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list doesn’t necessarily mean that Lamb will miss significant game time, but it does provide the Cowboys with a bit of breathing room while he ramps up for the regular season. Once Lamb is fully prepared to return to action, the team will have the flexibility to reinstate him to the active roster without penalty. However, the Cowboys’ use of the exempt list in this case is a strategic way to manage their roster during Lamb’s re-acclimation to the game.

Who Else is Currently on the Commissioner’s Exempt List?

Cleveland Browns rookie defensive lineman Mike Hall Jr. is another player currently placed on the commissioner’s exempt list. Hall is facing legal issues after being charged with domestic violence. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, but his placement on the list indicates that the NFL is taking a cautious approach to his situation while legal proceedings unfold.

As with other players on the exempt list, Hall is not allowed to play in games or attend them, and he cannot participate in team practices. However, he is permitted to attend meetings, engage in individual workouts, and receive therapy or rehabilitation at the Browns’ facilities. This ensures that Hall remains physically prepared to return, should the legal case conclude in his favor and the NFL decide to allow him back into active play.

Minnesota has signed quarterback Brett Rypien, the team announced on Wednesday, and has waived 2023 draft pick Jaren Hall.

Brett Rypien joins the Vikings after being released by the Bears on Tuesday. He will be joining Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens in the quarterback room, stepping in after first-round pick J.J. McCarthy suffered a season-ending knee injury during his preseason debut.

At 28 years old, Rypien signed with Chicago in March and spent the 2024 offseason with the NFC North rival. He impressed during the Hall of Fame Game on August 1, throwing three touchdown passes and leading the Bears to a 21-17 victory over the Texans. Despite bad weather cutting the game short, he completed 11 of 15 passes for 166 yards.

Brett Rypien originally signed with Denver as an undrafted rookie in 2019 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the Broncos. He played against the Vikings almost exactly two years ago in a preseason game in Denver, finishing 14 of 21 for 137 yards and an interception.

While with Denver, Brett Rypien overlapped with current Vikings offensive coaches, including running game coordinator/running backs coach Curtis Modkins and offensive line coach Chris Kuper.

In 2023, Rypien was on the Rams’ active roster from September 13 to November 7 before being waived. He then spent time on the Seahawks and Jets practice squads.

In 10 NFL games (with four starts), Rypien has completed 98 of 168 passes for 950 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

5 Key Facts About New Vikings QB Brett Rypien

1. Nephew of Super Bowl MVP

Rypien’s uncle, Mark Rypien, was named Super Bowl XXVI MVP after leading Washington to a 37-24 victory over Buffalo on January 26, 1992. That Super Bowl was held at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

Mark Rypien had a 14-season NFL career, winning two Super Bowls (including Super Bowl XXII against the Broncos), earning two Second-Team All-Pro honors, and receiving two Pro Bowl selections (1989 and 1991).

2. Former Boise State Star

Brett Rypien played college football at Boise State, where he became the Mountain West’s all-time leader in passing yards (13,581), completions (1,036), and 300-yard passing games (21). He surpassed Kellen Moore, who had 16 such games from 2008-11.

He was named the 2018 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and was the Mountain West Championship Offensive MVP in 2017 after throwing for 256 yards (with a long of 59) in a win over Fresno State. He then had a standout performance in the Las Vegas Bowl, throwing for 362 yards and two touchdowns against Oregon.

3. Hails from Washington

Brett Rypien grew up in Spokane, Washington, where he attended Shadle Park High School and played both baseball and football.

He was the quarterback for Shadle Park’s varsity football team all four years, setting Washington state records for career passing yards (13,044) and completions (1,006), as well as single-season records for passing yards (4,552) and touchdowns (50). He surpassed Kellen Moore in all four categories.

Brett Rypien graduated early and earned valedictorian honors.

Fun fact: Rypien shares his alma mater with Terry Davis, an award-winning American novelist and professor emeritus of English at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

4. Athletic Family Background

Brett and Mark Rypien are not the only athletes in their family.

Another of Brett’s uncles, Wes, was a Canadian boxing champion. His older cousin, Wes Jr., played professionally in the Western Hockey League, and his younger cousin Rick played six NHL seasons with the Vancouver Canucks before tragically passing away in 2011.

Cousin Shane Churla played 11 NHL seasons and later worked as a scout for the Montreal Canadiens.

Brett’s father, Tim, was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 1982 MLB June Amateur Draft and played three minor league seasons.

5. Mental Health Advocate

Rypien’s cousin Rick passed away after a battle with clinical depression, which profoundly affected Rypien. At 15, Rypien lost Rick, who was just 27 years old.

Brett Rypien has become a mental health advocate, emphasizing that “at some point or another, everyone goes through their own struggle with mental health.” In 2020, he represented Mental Health America for the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign, wearing cleats with “Break the Stigma” on one side and Rick’s jersey No. 37 on the other.

The Buzz has been created by Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze as general manager Ryan Poles completely revamped the team’s wide receiver group. When he decided to stay in Chicago for the time being, Jaylon Johnson made headlines, and Montez Sweat is still the main topic of discussion when talking about the defence. Even more attention has been paid to Tory Taylor, the rookie punter, and his potential as a weapon on special teams. There have, of course, been tales of Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams’s stories abound.

But a select group of players won’t make or break the team. Although the most talked-about players frequently produce the biggest plays, as nose tackle Andrew Billings demonstrated the previous season, sometimes the people who put in the grunt work have the most impact when it matters most.

In keeping with that, the following list of Chicago Bears players might have a greater impact on the team than their level of recognition outside of Halas Hall.

T.J. EDWARDS – LINEBACKER (Chicago Bears)

T.J. EDWARDS

Since Sweat arrived and improved the Chicago Bears’ defence’s pass rush on his own, there’s no denying that he should be regarded as the team’s 2023 MVP. But without Edwards’ play, which improved every week, the team most likely wouldn’t have made the same progress that it did during the year. In head coach Matt Eberflus’ scheme, Edwards plays the crucial position of weakside linebacker, where he must get to the ball to rack up tackles and cause takeaways.

That’s exactly what he did.

Edwards led the club in tackles with an astounding 155, good for seventh most in the NFL. In addition, he forced one fumble, recovered two interceptions, and intercepted three passes. Though it won’t appear on the stat sheet, Tremaine Edmunds also wouldn’t have this pick-six if Edwards hadn’t given Cedric Tillman such a big hit.

Edwards will be crucial to the team’s success in 2024 if he just continues where he left off from the previous season. He has the potential to become one of the league’s top linebackers if he continues to improve as he grows more accustomed to playing in Eberflus’ scheme.

ROSCHON JOHNSON – RUNNING BACK (Chicago Bears)

ROSCHON JOHNSON (Image: X)

D’Andre Swift, a versatile rusher who can also contribute in the passing game should be the main focus of the Chicago Bears’ rushing attack this season. But in the NFL, the blowback is essentially over. Most coaches use a running back-by-committee strategy unless their club has a player like Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, or Derrick Henry leading the way. Although the Bears might not distribute the carries equally between Swift and their RB2, Johnson will likely see a lot of snaps from the latter.

Johnson showed flashes of the physical power that brought the Chicago Bears to him in last year’s draft, but he never rushed for 40 yards in a game and averaged just over five carries. Given that Khalil Herbert’s contract expires at the end of this season, the team will probably want to see more of him in 2024.

Poles may feel confident about moving ahead with that combination, letting Hert depart in free agency, and possibly restocking the room with another youngster if Johnson performs well this season as Swift’s lightning to his thunder. If not, he may want to think about keeping Herbert on board or taking a more important action. In any case, it appears that Johnson will see more playing time this year.

ZACCH PICKENS – DEFENSIVE TACKLE (Chicago Bears)

ZACCH PICKENS (Image: X)

Gervon Dexter’s ability to take the field as the team’s next starting three-tech has been the main topic of discussion over the summer regarding the defensive line. Justifiably so, considering that the defence must perform to its high standards if he is not able to exert pressure from the middle of the pocket. But in an ideal scenario, the Bears would like to attack with two waves of linemen. This would enable the club to maintain the pass rushers’ maximum level of freshness throughout the fourth quarter while simultaneously giving opposing offensive lines a different look.

The Chicago Bears will need Pickens to develop just as much as they need Dexter to develop to do that. Pickens spent most of the previous season filling in as Billings’ nose tackle backup, accounting for barely 25% of the team’s defensive plays. This year, he has the chance to demonstrate his versatility by performing three tech reps. One of the team’s smallest position groupings, if not the thinnest, is still defensive tackle.

The Poles only added Byron Cowart and a few UDFAs to the roster this summer. Since Cowart spent last season bouncing between the practice squads of the Chiefs, Texans, and Dolphins, it’s difficult for UDFAs to make a significant impact in their first seasons. Pickens, on the other hand, seems to have the best chance of taking over as a DT on the Chicago Bears’ second unit.
