Legendary car designer Adrian Newey is set to join Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team when he officially exits Red Bull in early 2025.

Newey has committed his long-term future as Managing Technical Partner to the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Tea and will begin working at the team’s Silverstone headquarters from March 2025.

In May, Red Bull announced Newey was leaving the team after almost 20 years, drawing attention from rival car makers. 

“I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with,” Newey said in a statement.

Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll has invested heavily in the team with the aim of becoming title winners. To that end,  Aston Martin has already recruited a plethora of senior technical figures as it builds towards 2026 and the new set of car and engine regulations: Andy Cowell as group CEO, Bob Bell as executive director and Enrico Cardile as chief technical officer to add to the established senior engineers Dan Fallows, who joined from Red Bull as technical director, ex-Mercedes aero chief Eric Blandin, who is Fallows’s deputy, engineering director Luca Furbato and performance director Tom McCullough.

“Lawrence is determined to create a world-beating team. He is the only majority team owner who is actively engaged in the sport. His commitment is demonstrated in the development of the new AMR Technology Campus and wind tunnel at Silverstone, which are not only state of the art but have a layout that creates a great environment to work in,” Newey added.

Newey has a reputation for designing innovative and competitive cars. He has 25 world championships under his belt.  Regarded as one of the greatest F1 designers in history, the 65-year-old has been a part of the Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull teams, winning 12 drivers’ championships and 13 constructors’ crowns.

Mercedes have officially roped in Italian driver Kimi Antonelli as George Russell’s team mate for 2025. He has stepped up from F2 to replace Lewis Hamilton who is leaving Mercedes from next season.

The Silver Arrows have been on a hunt for a driver who would race for them next season after Hamilton decided to part ways with them at the end of the season to join Ferrari.

However, on the eve of the Italian Grand Prix, and just a day after Antonelli made his FP1 debut, Mercedes confirmed that the 18-year-old would be racing for them. 

“It is an amazing feeling to be announced as a Mercedes works driver alongside George for 2025,” said Antonelli. “Reaching F1 is a dream I’ve had since I was a small boy; I want to thank the team for the support they’ve given me in my career so far and the faith they’ve shown in me. I am still learning a lot, but I feel ready for the opportunity. I will be focused on getting better and delivering the best possible results for the team.”

Antonelli has had an illustrious junior career, rapidly rising through the ranks. After clinching the ADAC and Italian F4 titles in 2022 and Formula Regional European Championship in 2023, the Mercedes junior skipped F3 and entered F2 with PREMA this season.

The Italian  has won two races and currently lies sixth in the championship. He has competed in F2 with a testing programme in old-spec F1 machinery with Mercedes.

With this signing, both drivers in Mercedes’ 2025 line-up have graduated from their junior programme – with Russell geared up for his fourth season with the Silver Arrows having joined the junior squad in 2017.

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff said, “Our 2025 driver line-up combines experience, talent, youth and out-and-out raw speed. We are excited about what George and Kimi bring to the team both as individual drivers, but also as a partnership.”

Antonelli had a crash in his first FP1 at Monza after just five laps, but bounced back to qualify sixth in F2 just a couple of hours later. The Italian is expected to bag another run for Mercedes in FP1 this year, with the team mulling doing it in Mexico.

McLaren driver Lando Norris reigned supreme over home superstar Max Verstappen to clinch the victory at the Dutch Grand Prix. This was his second career win, and second triumph of the season adding to his Miami Grand Prix victory earlier. 

Lando Norris outclassed Verstappen by over 22 seconds at Zandvoort to achieve the Dutch GP victory. With this the Brit handed home favorite Verstappen the first-ever defeat of the season in his backyard with more than 100,000 mostly orange-shirted fans rooting for Red Bull’s championship leader.

Lando Norris Gives A Fightback 

The McLaren driver’s showed exceptional performance after having a poor start. The 28-year-old started from pole position but was not able to convert it into a big advantage as he lost the lead on the opening lap. Despite the early hiccups,  Norris displayed his racing prowess with an early race overtake that proved decisive. This strategic acumen allowed him to regain control of the contest, ultimately leading him to secure a convincing victory.

Norris made a thumping comeback and with Verstappen facing challenges in his mid-stint, the Brit went past the Dutchman to take the lead. Norris did not lose his lead on track and the only time he lost his place was when he made a pitstop. His McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri took the lead in the race but could not sustain longer. Norris made his way back to the lead after Piastri went to the pit and there was no looking back thereafter.

Norris achieved the chequered flag with a huge gap of 22.896 seconds ahead of Verstappen, the biggest margin so far this year.  However, it is still a great distance behind the triple-world champion with nine races remaining in the season.

On being asked about the title victory at the Dutch GP, Norris said, “I’ve been working hard the whole year and I’m still 70 points behind Max. So it’s pretty stupid to think of anything at the minute. I just take one race at a time and just keep doing what I’m doing now because there’s no point to think ahead and think of the rest.”

This was the first time since 2012 that a McLaren driver won an F1 race after starting on the pole position. The last time a McLaren driver achieved a victory from pole was Lewis Hamilton, who claimed the Italian GP 12 years ago.

Lando Norris also took home the extra point for the fastest lap to take the full 26 points in the offing. Verstappen returned home placed second and took 18 points. The Dutch now owns 295 points and lead Norris in the championship standings by 70 points.
