She has brought home many laurels winning several medals in international stages.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Chanu has become the face of weightlifting in India ever since winning a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in the 48 kg category.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The 29-year-old is one of the prominent medal contenders of India in the upcoming <a href="https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Paris Olympics 2024</a>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Before the Paris Games kicks-off on July 26, let us have a look at five top performances of Mirabai Chanu:</span></p>
<h4><b>World Championships 2017</b></h4>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">After a major setback at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where she failed in all her three attempts at clean and jerk, Mirabai Chanu came back strong to clinch a gold medal at the 2027 Weightlifting World Championships </span><span style="font-weight: 400">Anaheim</span><span style="font-weight: 400">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">In the 48 kg</span><span style="font-weight: 400"> category, Chanu lifted 85 kg in snatch and 109 kg in clean and jerk, amounting to a total of 194 kg. She gave India the first gold medal since Karnam Malleswari’s back-to-back victories in 1994 and 1995.</span></p>
<h4><b>Commonwealth Games 2018</b></h4>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The weightlifter from Manipur lifted a total of 196 kg, 86 kg in snatch and 110 kg in clean and jerk, to bag the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">With those figures, Chanu broke the previous Commonwealth Games record held by Augustine Nwaokolo of Nigeria in 2010.</span></p>
<h4><b>Commonwealth Games 2022</b></h4>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Mirabai Chanu returned to the Commonwealth Games as a formidable force and shattered her own previous Games record. She lifted a total of 201 kg with 88 kg in snatch and 113 in clean and jerk to defend her gold medal in Birmingham.</span></p>

<h4><strong>World Championships 2022</strong></h4>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Chanu participated at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships</span><span style="font-weight: 400"> in Bogota with a wrist injury.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">With a total lift of 200 kg (87 kg snatch + 113 kg clean and jerk), the Indian weightlifter finished second in the podium and brought home the silver medal.</span></p>

<h4><b>Tokyo Olympic 2020</b></h4>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Mirabai Chanu became the first participant to give India a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Competing in the 49 kg category, Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg snatch + 115 kg clean and jerk) </span><span style="font-weight: 400">to win a silver medal. She fell short behind China’s Hou Zhihui, who finished first with a combined lift of 210 kg.</span></p>
