This Year Paris has taken center stage and with this they create a fresh wave of Olympic obsession has swept the World. While we have dissected the best and worst uniforms, our focus now turns to the shooting team.

From India’s Sarabjot Singh and Manu Bhaker to South Korea’s Kim Yeji these athletes have captured our attention as much for their outfits as their marksmanship. The Indian team’s kit blue and white completed with elegant Mandairn collars were a standout. But it was Kim Yeji who surely stole the show with her effortlessly cool combination of white decent cap, Fila jacket and very well fit track pants not to mention her daughter’s cute elephant doll.

Even China gold medalists, Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao made a fashion statement with their matching yellow and red outfits. And their opponents looked their style in a black and blue still. These uniforms designed for precision and stillness, unexpectedly showcased another side to shooting. It was a suprise for everyone.

Kim Yeji’s calm and composed demeanour, as she fired record-breaking shots, earned her “badass mommy” status. Meanwhile, Dikec’s minimalist approach, complete with a lack of protective gear, drew comparisons to a seasoned hitman.

The shooting range has become an unexpected fashion runway, where athletes are as captivating to watch as their targets.

Paris Olympics 2024, Day 1: It was a wonderful day for Indian fans across many sporting events at the Paris Olympics 2024, as Team India won convincingly in badminton, boxing, shooting, and hockey. Manu Bhaker became the country’s first shooter to qualify for the final, shooting in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol Event.

India showed their dominance in badminton as well, with Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy winning in consecutive games to begin their group campaign on a high note.

On the first day of the group stage, hockey provided a tonne of entertainment as India pulled off a thrilling 3-2 victory over New Zealand to begin their campaign.

China’s sharp-shooting pair of Sheng Lihao and Huang Yuting delivered China the first gold medal of the Paris Olympics 2024. The duo finished first in the 10m air rifle mixed team final.

Sheng Lihao and Huang Yuting have made China proud on several international stages. With calm composure, the young guns overcame pressure situations on various occasions to emerge victorious.

Huang Yuting is one of the minor athletes to compete at the Paris Olympics 2024. Born on 3rd September 2006, Huang Yuting has emerged to become one of the rising shooting stars China has ever produced. She won three medals in air rifle events at the 2022 ISSF World Shooting Championships.

At the age of 10, Huang’s talent was spotted by the Huangyan District Youth Sports School. After just eight months of training, the young starlet was at par with some of the big national shooters.

Huang marked her international debut in October 2022 and made a strong case for herself as she won three medals in air rifle events at the 2022 ISSF World Shooting Championships held in Cairo. She took home two golds and a silver medal.

There has been no looking back for the 17-year-old since then. She clinched gold in the 10m air rifle mixed team event with Sheng Lihao at the 2023 world championships.

The child prodigy won three gold medals at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.  She clinched one in women’s 10-meter air rifle individual event and two in team events.

The teenager won gold in team shooting events at the International Sports Shooting Federation Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2023 and the ISSF World Cup in Bhopal, India. 

The young shooting sensation also won a gold medal in the 10 m air rifle team event at 2023 Changwon Asian Championship.

Shooting competitions have been a mainstay for the Summer Olympic Games since their inception in 1896. Shooting was considered to be one of the nine major events held at the 1896 Olympic Games in Athens. Apart from the St Louis Olympics in 1904 and the Amsterdam Olympics in 1928, the sport of shooting has remained as a cornerstone of the Olympic Games. Shooting has undergone a major glorious transition over the decades, earlier the Olympic Games featured only a total of five shooting events where the modern-day Olympic Games feature around fifteen shooting events, owing to the sport’s growing popularity and prominence on a global scale. 

Ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024, a total of 340 athletes hailing from 82 different countries are all geared up to compete across different shooting competitions that will take place from 27th July 2024 and will conclude on 5 August 2024 at the prestigious Chateauroux Shooting Centre.

In this article we will take a look at the rules and defending champions of shooting competitions at the Paris Olympics 2024. 

Shooting Rules at the Paris Olympics 2024

The Paris Olympics 2024 will feature a total of three major shooting disciplines including Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun. Each of the disciplines will be governed by a specific set of rules at the Paris Olympics 2024. 

Pistol Shooting Rules at the Paris Olympics 2024

As per the rules of pistol shooting at the Paris Olympics 2024 it will be mandatory for the athletes to use only one hand while shooting. The three major sub-categories for pistol shooting at the Paris Olympics 2024 will include 10m Air Pistol, 25m Rapid Fire Pistol and 25m Pistol.

10m Air Pistol Shooting Rules 

• Individual shooters would have a total of 75 minutes to fire a total of 60 shots 
• Only a total of top eight shooters will have the chance of advancing to the medal rounds. 
• In mixed team 10m air pistol shooting events, each team member will have a chance to fire only 40 shots.
• Only a total of the top five teams will advance to the medal rounds. 

25m Rapid Fire Pistol Shooting Rules

• The shooters will fire a total of five successive shots from their pistols at the stated  interval of 4,6 and 8 seconds. 
• The qualification round will consist of two rounds with a total of 30 rounds each. 
• Only a total of eight shooters will advance from the qualification round to the medals round. 

25m Pistol Shooting Rules 

As per the rules of Paris Olympics 2024, “25m Pistol” would be considered as a women’s equivalent to shooting event and would be governed as per the above mentioned Olympic rules for 25m rapid fire pistol events. 

Rifle Shooting Rules at the Paris Olympics 2024

The two major sub-categories for rifle shooting at the Paris Olympics 2024 will include 10m Air Rifle and 50m Rifle 3 Positions. 

50m Rifle 3 Positions Shooting Rules 

• The total time limit of the 50m rifle 3 positions event will be 2 hrs and 45 minutes. 
• In 50m rifle 3 positions shooting at the Paris Olympics 2024, shooters will be allowed to fire shots in three major positions including prone, standing and kneeling. 
• Each shooter will be required to fire 40 shots from each position.
• Only a total of top eight shooters will advance to the medals round. 

10m Air Rifle Shooting Rules 

• The total time limit of the 10m Air Rifle shooting events will be 75 minutes only. 
• Shooters would be required to fire a total of 60 shots.
• Only a total of top eight shooters will advance to the medals round. 

Shotgun Shooting Rules at the Paris Olympics 2024

The two major sub-categories for shotgun shooting at the Paris Olympics 2024 will include trap and skeet. 

Trap Shooting Rules 

• Shooters will be required to attack clays that will come from a total of five different directions.
• Each shooter will be required to fire a total of 75 shots which will be divided in three rounds of 25 shots each.
• Only a total of six teams will advance to the medal round. 

Skeet Shooting Rules 

• Shooters will be required to attack clays that will come from a total of eight different directions.
• A total of five rounds of skeet shooting will be held at the Paris Olympics 2024 over a course of three days.
• Shooters will be required to take at least 25 shots each.
• Only a total of six shooters will advance to the medal round.
