The winner is chosen by a panel of 16 football writers and broadcasters, and, since Super Bowl XXXV in 2001, fans voting electronically. The media panel’s ballots count for 80 percent of the vote tally, while the viewers’ ballots make up the other 20 percent.

The game’s viewing audience can vote on the Internet, or by using cell phones. Media voters are asked to vote with about five minutes remaining in the game, but are allowed to change their mind when the game ends. They can nominate one player from each team, with instructions to count their vote for the player on the winning team. Voters cannot select an entire unit.

The Super Bowl MVP has been awarded annually since the game’s inception in 1967. Tom Brady has the most Super Bowl MVPs in NFL history, having won five awards in his seven victories. Brady clears second on the list by two, as Patrick Mahomes and Joe Montana both have three Super Bowl MVP awards.

That award usually means that a player was a crucial part to their team’s championship victory, typically representing the best player on the best team in the Super Bowl. Normally, this award goes to a quarterback, but any player who has a standout performance in the Super Bowl is eligible to win the award.

There are some exclusive clubs in the NFL, but the club of Super Bowl MVPs is one of the most exclusive.

Vikings Make a Change in Quarterback Room

The Vikings have made a move in their quarterback lineup.

Minnesota has signed quarterback Brett Rypien, the team announced on Wednesday, and has waived 2023 draft pick Jaren Hall.

Brett Rypien joins the Vikings after being released by the Bears on Tuesday. He will be joining Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens in the quarterback room, stepping in after first-round pick J.J. McCarthy suffered a season-ending knee injury during his preseason debut.

At 28 years old, Rypien signed with Chicago in March and spent the 2024 offseason with the NFC North rival. He impressed during the Hall of Fame Game on August 1, throwing three touchdown passes and leading the Bears to a 21-17 victory over the Texans. Despite bad weather cutting the game short, he completed 11 of 15 passes for 166 yards.

Brett Rypien originally signed with Denver as an undrafted rookie in 2019 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the Broncos. He played against the Vikings almost exactly two years ago in a preseason game in Denver, finishing 14 of 21 for 137 yards and an interception.

While with Denver, Brett Rypien overlapped with current Vikings offensive coaches, including running game coordinator/running backs coach Curtis Modkins and offensive line coach Chris Kuper.

In 2023, Rypien was on the Rams’ active roster from September 13 to November 7 before being waived. He then spent time on the Seahawks and Jets practice squads.

In 10 NFL games (with four starts), Rypien has completed 98 of 168 passes for 950 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

5 Key Facts About New Vikings QB Brett Rypien

1. Nephew of Super Bowl MVP

Rypien’s uncle, Mark Rypien, was named Super Bowl XXVI MVP after leading Washington to a 37-24 victory over Buffalo on January 26, 1992. That Super Bowl was held at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

Mark Rypien had a 14-season NFL career, winning two Super Bowls (including Super Bowl XXII against the Broncos), earning two Second-Team All-Pro honors, and receiving two Pro Bowl selections (1989 and 1991).

2. Former Boise State Star

Brett Rypien played college football at Boise State, where he became the Mountain West’s all-time leader in passing yards (13,581), completions (1,036), and 300-yard passing games (21). He surpassed Kellen Moore, who had 16 such games from 2008-11.

He was named the 2018 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and was the Mountain West Championship Offensive MVP in 2017 after throwing for 256 yards (with a long of 59) in a win over Fresno State. He then had a standout performance in the Las Vegas Bowl, throwing for 362 yards and two touchdowns against Oregon.

3. Hails from Washington

Brett Rypien grew up in Spokane, Washington, where he attended Shadle Park High School and played both baseball and football.

He was the quarterback for Shadle Park’s varsity football team all four years, setting Washington state records for career passing yards (13,044) and completions (1,006), as well as single-season records for passing yards (4,552) and touchdowns (50). He surpassed Kellen Moore in all four categories.

Brett Rypien graduated early and earned valedictorian honors.

Fun fact: Rypien shares his alma mater with Terry Davis, an award-winning American novelist and professor emeritus of English at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

4. Athletic Family Background

Brett and Mark Rypien are not the only athletes in their family.

Another of Brett’s uncles, Wes, was a Canadian boxing champion. His older cousin, Wes Jr., played professionally in the Western Hockey League, and his younger cousin Rick played six NHL seasons with the Vancouver Canucks before tragically passing away in 2011.

Cousin Shane Churla played 11 NHL seasons and later worked as a scout for the Montreal Canadiens.

Brett’s father, Tim, was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 1982 MLB June Amateur Draft and played three minor league seasons.

5. Mental Health Advocate

Rypien’s cousin Rick passed away after a battle with clinical depression, which profoundly affected Rypien. At 15, Rypien lost Rick, who was just 27 years old.

Brett Rypien has become a mental health advocate, emphasizing that “at some point or another, everyone goes through their own struggle with mental health.” In 2020, he represented Mental Health America for the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign, wearing cleats with “Break the Stigma” on one side and Rick’s jersey No. 37 on the other.

Tony Romo has established himself as a prominent figure in the broadcasting realm, ascending swiftly through the ranks at CBS following his retirement from professional football. His partnership with Jim Nantz as a key member of CBS’ premier NFL broadcasting team has solidified his presence in the industry. Now, Romo is gearing up to showcase his expertise on the grandest stage of them all: Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, which will be aired by CBS.

This isn’t Romo’s first rodeo when it comes to Super Bowl broadcasts. He and Nantz provided commentary for Super Bowl 53 between the Patriots and Rams, as well as Super Bowl 55 where the Buccaneers emerged victorious over the Chiefs. With experience under his belt, Romo is well-versed in delivering top-notch performances for Super Bowl broadcasts. However, while he excels in the booth, questions linger about his postseason performance as a player.

So, Did Tony Romo ever win a Super Bowl?

Sporting Scroll delves into Romo’s playoff journey with the Cowboys, shedding light on his Super Bowl aspirations and postseason struggles. Despite his illustrious career, Romo never clinched a Super Bowl victory. Throughout six playoff starts, he managed a modest 2-4 record, never advancing beyond the divisional round. Romo’s playoff statistics paint a picture of competence, boasting a completion rate of 61.6% with 1,316 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions, culminating in a postseason passer rating of 93.0.

Yet, despite his individual achievements, Romo couldn’t shake off the notorious “Curse of the Cowboys.” Infamous moments like the botched hold on a field-goal attempt in the 2006 wild-card round and the controversial Dez Bryant non-catch in 2014 marred his playoff legacy. Additionally, Romo was sidelined for two other playoff clashes, including a wild-card loss to the Panthers in 2003 and a heartbreaking defeat against the Packers in 2016.

Reflecting on Romo’s overall career, his impact as a starting quarterback for the Cowboys shines through. With a commendable record of 78-49 in regular-season play, Romo amassed impressive passing yards and touchdowns, ranking among the NFL’s elite in various statistical categories. His legacy extends beyond the gridiron, as evidenced by his seamless transition into the broadcasting realm, where he continues to captivate audiences with his insightful commentary and infectious enthusiasm.

Super Bowl squares is indeed a classic and entertaining game that adds an extra layer of excitement to the big game. Here’s a recap of the steps and rules for playing Super Bowl squares, along with some additional insights:

How to Play Super Bowl Squares:

Set Up the Grid: Print a 10×10 grid with 100 squares or use a free online resource to create a virtual grid.

Add Extra Rows and Columns: Ensure there’s an extra blank row and column for drawing numbers, corresponding to the squares.

Select Squares: Participants choose squares by signing their initials within the grid, with each square representing one entry.

Fill Out the Board: Fill out the entire board with participants’ selections before proceeding to draw numbers.

Draw Numbers: Randomly draw numbers from 0-9 for both teams, filling the extra row and column with the drawn numbers.

Determine Winners: At the end of each quarter, determine the winners based on the second digits of the score. The corresponding squares are the winners.

Rules of Super Bowl Squares:

The game is played on a 10×10 grid, with the home team’s row on top and the visitor team’s column on the side.

The grid starts with 100 squares, usually labeled from 1-100.

All squares must be filled out before drawing numbers for each team.

Participants can pick squares based on personal preference, as there’s no specific strategy involved.

The board must be entirely filled before numbers can be drawn, and multiple squares in the same row or column decrease the available number combinations.

Alternative versions of the game can use “winning score” and “losing score” instead of team names.

Selecting Numbers:

Common winning combinations historically include 0-0, 0-3, 0-7, 7-0, and 3-7.

Less common combinations, such as 7-7, have not been as prevalent historically.

The winning combinations are determined by the second digits of the scores at the end of each quarter, offering multiple opportunities for participants to win prizes.

Super Bowl squares offer a fun and engaging way to enjoy the game with friends, family, and colleagues. So, gather your participants, fill out your grid, and get ready for an exciting Super Bowl experience!

The Chiefs are aiming for a second consecutive victory and their third in five seasons, while the 49ers seek redemption after their loss in Super Bowl LIV.

The Super Bowl stands as the pinnacle of sports viewership in the United States, drawing in millions of spectators. For a fortunate few, this means experiencing the event firsthand in the stadium rather than through a television screen.

However, attending the Super Bowl is a luxury not everyone can afford. What once may have been a relatively affordable ticket, adjusted for inflation to just over a hundred dollars in today’s market, now commands prices in the several-thousand-dollar range, even for seats in the upper tiers. Seats with a view closer to the action come at an even steeper price.

Ticket prices for the Super Bowl are subject to fluctuation, and with the Chiefs and 49ers boasting two of the NFL’s most fervent fan bases, prices are likely to continue rising. The event’s location in Las Vegas, with one of the smallest stadiums in league history at only 65,000 seats, further contributes to the high demand and escalating ticket costs.

Sporting News offers comprehensive coverage of Super Bowl 58 ticket prices, detailing the cheapest and most expensive options, along with historical ticket price data for the game.

As of now, the average ticket price stands at $10,026, according to TicketIQ, with prices on StubHub ranging from around $6,300 to exceeding $44,000.

The most expensive seats listed on StubHub are priced at $44,100, offering a premium zone club experience with VIP access, while the cheapest available tickets are corner upper-deck seats in Section 346, Row 12, priced at $6,300.

In comparison, tickets for the 2023 Super Bowl could be purchased for as little as $3,480, marking the lowest prices since the 2019 edition. The highest “low point” for ticket prices was recorded in 2022, when it cost $5,823 to secure entry into the event.

The history of Super Bowl ticket prices reflects a significant escalation in costs over the years. While tickets once sold for a modest $12, even after adjusting for inflation to $112 in today’s terms, prices have skyrocketed since 2009, consistently exceeding $1,000 and often surpassing $3,000.
