Meanwhile, the young Spanish sensation Alcaraz secured the year-end World No. 1 ranking, highlighting a season marked by their intense rivalry and dominance in men’s tennis.

Jannik Sinner’s Win On Home Soil

Sinner’s victory on home soil was electrifying, with a passionate Italian crowd energising the 24-year-old player. His win was historic, making him only the third man, after John McEnroe and Boris Becker, to win multiple ATP Finals titles at home. The ATP Finals 2025 saw Sinner go undefeated throughout the tournament, never dropping a set, and finishing with the best win percentage in the event’s history.

In the first set, Sinner saved a set point with a powerful second serve at 5-6 and eventually won the tie-break with stunning shots that fired up the crowd. Despite Alcaraz breaking Sinner’s serve in the second set, the first player to do so in the tournament, the Italian quickly responded with an aggressive comeback and eventually won the game.

Carlos Alcaraz Secures World Number 1 Ranking

Carlos Alcaraz, who had already secured the No. 1 ranking before the tournament, finished the season with a remarkable record of 71 wins and 9 losses, including eight tournament titles, such as the French Open and US Open. Despite the loss in Turin, his overall season performance cemented his position at the top of the ATP rankings.

The rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz defined men’s tennis in 2025, as they won all four Grand Slam titles between them. Sinner claimed the Australian Open and Wimbledon, while Alcaraz took the French Open and US Open. They met multiple times during the year, with Alcaraz leading their head-to-head 10-6, but Sinner’s recent victories, especially at Wimbledon and the ATP Finals, have shown that their battles are far from one-sided, signalling an ongoing epic rivalry for tennis supremacy.

Looking ahead, the dynamic between Sinner and Alcaraz promises more excitement in 2026, as both players are still very young with the potential for many more clashes.

Joao Fonseca’s Road To Glory

The road to glory in Basel wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. Fonseca entered the week with momentum from his earlier wins in 2025, but the Swiss Indoors always delivers a tough lineup. Early rounds saw Fonseca’s signature mix of baseline aggression and cheeky net play. Each victory brought louder buzz both inside the arena and across social media, every post-match interview trending for his effortless charm as much as his focus.

Then came those knock-out rounds defining champions. Fonseca made headlines with his clinical demolition of Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, in straight sets, no less, sending a message to the rest of the ATP field: the kid from Rio isn’t just here for the ride; he’s here for the Swiss Indoors Basel 2025 crown. Every racquet swing was laced with that “Brazilian swagger,” and suddenly, Basel felt more like Ipanema than Switzerland.

By the time Fonseca reached the Swiss Indoors Basel 2025 final, the tennis world was watching. It wasn’t just about the power or the placement. With the Basel trophy in his hands, Joao Fonseca has shown he’s not just Brazil’s brightest tennis hope; he’s the hottest ticket in the ATP’s new wave. Watch out, tennis world, the smooth operator from Rio has officially arrived, and he’s making this sport cooler every single day.

However, if we compare it to the actual longest winning streaks in tennis, it might seem like the tip of the iceberg. While Alcaraz reached his milestone by winning the 15th game, the longest streak in the whole tennis world is 74 matches, held by Martina Navratilova.

In fact, it’s one of the very few records that is heavily dominated by women. The top 4 of the record is women, making it a legendary milestone. Discover the top 4 longest winning streaks in tennis I both men’s and women’s categories.

Martina Navratilova: 74 Matches (1984)

Martina Navratilova holds the record for the longest winning streaks in tennis. In 1984, she won 74 consecutive matches, a feat unmatched by any other player, male or female. Navratilova’s streak included victories across all surfaces and against the top competition of her era.

Steffi Graf: 66 Matches (1989–1990)

Steffi Graf, another icon of the sport, achieved the second longest winning streaks in tennis between 1989 and 1990. Graf’s run was marked by her dominance on both hard and clay courts, and she consistently outperformed her rivals, collecting multiple titles along the way. Her streak was 66 matches long, highlighting her extraordinary consistency and skill.

Martina Navratilova: 58 Matches (1986–1987)

Navratilova appears again in the top four of the longest winning streaks in tennis with her 58-match winning streak from 1986 to 1987. This run further demonstrates her sustained excellence and adaptability, as she continued to dominate the women’s game even after her record-setting 74-match streak.

Margaret Court: 57 Matches (1972–1973)

Margaret Court rounds out the top four with a 57-match winning streak achieved between 1972 and 1973. Court’s dominance during this period was unparalleled, and her ability to win consistently against the best players of her time makes it one of the longest winning streaks in tennis.

Traditionally, it is a warm-up event for Wimbledon and it’s held annually at the Queen’s Club in West Kensington, London.

2025 marks a special year as the women’s singles event returns to Queen’s after more than 50 years, making it a highly anticipated stop on the WTA Tour. This tournament is ongoing, and we have already reached the semi-final stage of the women’s singles. So, who could win the tournament? Let’s see.

Who Reached the Queens Championships 2025 Semi-Finals?

The Queens Championships 2025 women’s singles draw has been packed with star power and thrilling matches. As the tournament reached its later stages, the following players secured their spots in the semi-finals:

Qinwen Zheng (China): The top seed, Zheng has shown her class throughout the tournament, including a straight-sets victory over Emma Raducanu in the quarter-finals.

Madison Keys (USA): The second seed, Keys advanced to the semi-finals and is set to face qualifier Tatjana Maria.

Tatjana Maria (Germany): The experienced German qualifier pulled off impressive wins to reach the last four, including a notable run past higher-ranked opponents.

Amanda Anisimova (USA): Anisimova defeated Emma Navarro in the quarter-finals to book her semi-final spot.

Top Contenders for the Queens Championships 2025 Women’s Singles Title

As the tournament’s top seed, Zheng has lived up to her billing, sending strong opponents home with her powerful baseline play and consistency. Her win over Raducanu in the quarter-finals shows her peak form and confidence on grass. Zheng’s aggressive style and ability to adapt quickly to grass make her a leading contender for the title.

Meanwhile, Madison Keys is known for her big serve and explosive groundstrokes. She has always been a threat on faster surfaces like grass. She has experience in the latter stages of major tournaments and, as the second seed, has handled the pressure well so far. If her serve is firing, she could be unstoppable.

Tatjana Maria has also been the surprise package of the tournament. Maria’s game, featuring frequent slices and net play, is well-suited to grass courts. Her momentum and underdog spirit could carry her further, especially if she continues to upset higher seeds.

Amanda Anisimova’s powerful baseline game and mental toughness have helped her navigate a tricky draw. If she maintains her composure and aggressive play, she also has a real shot at her first big grass-court title.

Who Could Win The Queens Championships 2025

Based on current form and the semi-final line-up, Qinwen Zheng stands out as the favorite. She has been consistent all season and has already beaten tough opponents at Queen’s. However, grass courts can be unpredictable, and both Madison Keys and Amanda Anisimova have the weapons to challenge Zheng if they play their best.

Isha teamed up with her friend Vrushali to win the gold in the Women’s Doubles (35+) category. The Indian team had an impressive performance overall, with another player, Vanshik Kapadia, also winning a gold medal in men’s singles. Together, the Indian athletes showcased their skills and brought home several medals, making their country proud.

After her victory, Isha shared her excitement, saying, “Pickleball is growing a lot, and we get to travel and learn more about the sport. Thanks to the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) for their support.” This support has been crucial for Isha and other players, as it allows them to gain more experience and exposure in the sport.

Isha has high hopes for pickleball’s future in India. During the championship, India’s rising profile was clear, as Vrushali and Vanshik also won silver in mixed doubles. In the Team Event, India claimed gold in multiple categories, including two in men’s doubles, one in mixed doubles, and one in women’s doubles. Isha played a vital role in this success, using her experience to guide her teammates.

Having played international tennis for over ten years, Isha won many titles during her career, including four ITF singles titles and seven in doubles. She achieved a peak singles ranking of No. 291 and No. 371 in doubles back in December 2008, which shows how skilled she is.

You might wonder why Isha decided to play pickleball after so many years in tennis. She began playing pickleball at the suggestion of a friend who noticed the nearby pickleball courts at her tennis club. “She encouraged me to try it out, saying it looked like a fun sport. So, I gave it a shot,” Isha recalled. This shows how sometimes friends can help us discover new interests.

Isha liked pickleball because it shares similarities with tennis. The court is smaller, and the way you play is a bit different, but many of the skills and strokes are the same. This made it easier for her to pick up the game, as her body already remembered how to play from her years in tennis.

Now that she is playing pickleball, Isha feels she can continue for another eight to nine years. “Age is just a number. Many players around my age are doing great,” she said confidently. This positive attitude is inspiring for many who might think they are too old to start something new.

Isha also thinks it’s important to train smart. While pickleball is a bit slower than tennis, it can still be tricky to master, especially with its unique rules and strategies. Isha believes that with practice, anyone can learn and enjoy the game.

Having found success in this fast-growing sport, which is popular in the United States, Isha wants to inspire younger players to try pickleball. She believes that with the support of the AIPA, pickleball can flourish in India, giving more athletes a chance to shine.

Isha encourages young players to stay motivated, practice hard, and enjoy the game. “Pickleball can be so much fun, but it’s important to take breaks and not play for too long,” she said. “Train wisely and think about making it a career because it’s an exciting sport with many opportunities.”

In her journey from tennis to pickleball, Isha Lakhani has shown that it’s never too late to try something new and achieve great things. She is not only a champion but also a role model for young athletes everywhere, proving that with determination and support, anything is possible.

According to reports and statistics, over a billion fans watch tennis actively throughout the world. With the introduction of highly competitive leagues and high-stakes tennis tournaments, including the Grand Slams, Wimbledon, and the US Open, tennis as a sport has garnered an enormous fan base over the years. Moreover, with the active dominance of tennis stalwarts of the modern era, including, Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and many others, the sport has witnessed an incredible transformation and has scaled to unprecedented heights. While tennis aficionados often know the rules and regulations of the tennis court thoroughly, they lack the knowledge and insight of fascinating facts that exist beyond the scoreboard and tennis court.

In this article, we will take a look at the top eight interesting and fascinating facts about the world of tennis that you might not know about.

The Origin of Tennis

One of the most popular sports of the modern era, tennis has its roots embedded in French history. Back in the 12th century, Northern France had a popular game called “jeu de paume” which translated to “game of the palm”. Although initially it was played with bare hands, later in the early 16th century French people started playing the game with racquets, making the revolutionary transition into the modern game of tennis from the game that was played with bare hands.

The Transition of Tennis Balls

The game of tennis has undergone numerous transformations over the years. The color change of the tennis ball is one such transformation that took place in 1986. Prior to 1986, only white colored tennis balls were used across all formats and championships. Tennis players back then faced quite a lot of challenges while hitting the tennis ball across the tennis court with a vibrant background or on open fields with a bright cloudy sky. The transition of the tennis ball from white to yellow/green proved to be a complete game changer that was appreciated by tennis players around the world as it made it possible for them to track the trajectory of the ball with precision and accuracy.

The First Player to Wear Shorts at Wimbledon

The year 1932 witnessed a revolutionary move by the English tennis player, Henry Bunny Austin, who took an active step to break through the decades-old tradition of wearing long trousers on the tennis court. Although Austin’s bold move to wear shorts at Wimbledon faced quite a lot of criticism in the beginning, it successfully revolutionized the concept of traditional attire on the tennis court and ignited a wave of interest among the tennis players of his era to make the switch from traditional trousers to shorts.

The Fastest Serve in the Tennis History

An Australian politician and a former professional tennis player took the tennis world by storm with his record-breaking serve of 163.4mph on the tennis court. The high-velocity serve garnered him enormous fame, and he was instantly revered as one of the most formidable players in the world of tennis.

The World’s Oldest Tennis Court

The Royal Tennis Court, situated at Hampton Court Palace in London, took a period of three years to be constructed from 1526 to 1529. King Henry VIII was also referred to as the interceptor of tennis and referred to the Royal Tennis Court as his favourite location to play tennis. After a time period of almost 500 years, the Royal Tennis Court is still serviceable. Contrary to most of the league matches, the tennis matches played at the Royal Tennis Court are indoors and are often referred to as “the real tennis”.

The Only Player to Clinch US Open at Three Different Surfaces

Often regarded as one of the greatest champions of tennis, Jimmy Connors achieved the historic feat of clinching the U.S. Open on three different surfaces, including the Forest Hills in 1974, on clay at the same venue in 1976, and then on hard court in 1978 at Flushing Meadows. The trailblazer of tennis, Jimmy Connors, is the only player to achieve this feat, which has never been surpassed by any other tennis player to date.

The Longest Match in the History of Tennis

Wimbledon 2010 has been etched in the history of tennis as the longest showdown in the history of the sport. Although the tussle between John Isner and Nicholas Mahut at Wimbledon in 2010 was initiated as a standard match, it continued for an astonishing length of 11 hours and 5 minutes, making it the longest match in the history of tennis.

The Disparity in Prize Money at the Wimbledon

Although women players have been treated equally to their counterparts in the game of tennis in terms of game and fair play, there was a major disparity in prize money between men and women tennis players until 2007 when Wimbledon finally, decided to raise the prize money of women tennis players to match it with the alluring prize money of male tennis players. This revolutionary move was appreciated and commemorated not just by female tennis players but also by tennis fans throughout the world.

Tennis isn’t an easy sport. It’s a match based on precision, talent, and technique. The game continues until one player scores the necessary amount of points, or until a player quits or retires in the middle of the court due to exhaustion or an injury that prevents them from continuing.

This is precisely the reason why extended matches are so captivating. The audience is kept on the edge of their seats by it. When Rafael Nadal, one of the all-time greats, defeated Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open in 2022, we witnessed precisely this. In the five hours and twenty-four minute final, the Spaniard prevailed. In addition, Nadal surpassed players like Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to become the first tennis player to win 21 Grand Slam titles.

Notwithstanding this, the match isn’t even close to being the longest in tennis history. The top five tennis matches that lasted longer than six hours are listed below.

5. Fabrice Santoro Vs Arnaud Clement (2004 French Open, 6 hours and 33 minutes)

Fabrice Santoro and Arnaud Clement faced off in the first round of the French Open in 2004, producing a classic. The match between 32nd seed Arnaud Clement and unseeded Santoro lasted more than six hours. The game lasted for two days because it was that long. During the entertaining back-and-forth exchange, Santoro also managed to save two match points.

It was a physical and psychological match. In addition, the match’s past was further complicated by a great deal of animosity. It seems that captain Guy Forget had cut Santoro from the French Davis Cup team the same year. The French tennis community was divided as a result, and tensions ran high among the players. Fabrice entered the court with a purpose to accomplish.

Santoro won the opening two sets and secured the deal in the fifth and final set. The scores were 6-4,6-3,6-7,3-6, 16-14. After the match, Santoro’s on-court collapse after blasting a backhand winner past Clement was a true testament to his unfiltered feelings.

4. Kevin Anderson Vs John Isner (2018 Wimbledon, 6 hours 36 minutes)

There were two memorable semifinal matchups at the 2018 Wimbledon for men. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic faced off in one, while Kevin Anderson and John Isner faced off in another. Even though the former was the centre of attention, the latter was the one who took centre stage.

It is the longest tennis match ever to be played in a semifinal. The match culminated with these two former college pals exchanging passionate embraces in the 49th game of the decisive set.

In the end, the result was 7-6,6-7,6-7,6-4, 26-24. Isner (6’10”) and Anderson (6’8″), two enormous athletes, actually performed a game on par with their incredible height.

3. Leonardo Mayer (ARG) Vs Joao Souza (BRA) (2015 Davis Cup, 6 hours 43 mins)

If you believe that football is the only sport in which Brazil and Argentina are rivals, you should reconsider. All the necessary spice was present in the duel between Leonardo Mayer of Argentina and Joao Souza of Brazil. For Argentina to have a chance in the Davis Cup group stages, Mayer had to win the match. There was additional strain because the game was held in Buenos Aires, his native country.

The fact that Mayer lost out on ten match points made it very clear. He eventually broke Souza’s serve to lead 14–13. A thunderous applause from the audience and his teammates sent the 29-year-old Argentine to the ground. The score was 7-6,7-6,5-7,5-7,15-13 in the end. Additionally, it succeeded in tying the best-of-five series at 2-2. It was an incredibly significant occasion for both Argentine tennis and South American tennis in general.

2. Tomas Berdych/Lukas Rosol (CZE) Vs Stan Wawrinka/ Marco Chiudinelli (SUI) (2013 Davis Cup, 7 hours 1 minute)

On the list of the longest tennis matches ever played, this match is the only doubles match. Additionally, it is the longest Davis Cup match ever. It went on for seven hours and one minute, and it was really tiresome. Two teams competed in a contest at Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland, and went all out to win.

But in the end, the guests were the ones who got the final laugh. With Berdych and Rosol winning 6-4,5-7,6-4,6-7, 24-22 in the end. The Czechs were able to take a 2-1 lead thanks to the victory. That year, it also played a key role in the Czechs’ Davis Cup victory.

1. John Isner Vs Nicolas Mahut (2010 Wimbledon, 11 hours 5 minutes)

John Isner can now officially refer to himself as tennis’s “Marathon Man”. The veteran has fought in some very hard fights. He appears on this list twice, which is the reason for it. This encounter with Nicolas Mahut, a Frenchman, took place long before he faced Kevin Anderson. Furthermore, he was in the winner’s corner during this fight, in contrast to his on-court match in 2018.

The game lasted for days, not just minutes or hours. The game ended at 4:47 p.m. on June 24, having begun at 6:13 p.m. BST on June 22. The waning daylight was the only reason for the gaps. The match ended with a never-before-seen scoreline of 6-4,3-6,6-7,7-6,70-68. There were a total of 183 games played, a record. Globally, the match smashed numerous records. It was so long-lasting that many called it “the endless match.”

On the Roehampton courts, 128 players will compete for one of 16 qualifying spots in the main draw as well as a guaranteed 60,000-pound check in prize money.

In 1999, American Alexandra Stevenson advanced to the main draw and reached the semifinals. Is it possible for someone to accomplish the same feat this year, or maybe emulate Emma Raducanu’s successful Grand Slam qualifying career?

Let’s have a look at five players to watch out for at Wimbledon 2024 Women’s Singles Qualifiers

1. Amanda Anisimova

Amanda Anisimova (Getty Images: Robert Prange)

Amanda Anisimova is one of the most natural ball strikers in women’s tennis. The American strikes the ball with a combination of effortlessness and force.

Even at the young age of 22, Anisimova has already experienced both the highs and lows of the game, including the death of her father and taking a year off from competition due to burnout and mental health issues. Her highs include two WTA titles, a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon, and a French Open semi-final.

The American returned to the tour in January after an eight-month absence and advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open. Although Anisimova is only 6-7 for the season, she is a player to watch at Roehampton because of her much more balanced approach to life and her job.

In the first round, she faces Greek player Valentini Grammatikopoulou in the second round, she might face fourth seed Hailey Baptiste. In her attempt to secure a spot in the Wimbledon main draw, she may face 25th seed Eva Lys in the third round.

2. Alycia Parks

Alycia Parks (Image: Boris Streubel)

Alycia Parks has long been on the radar. Following her victory in Lyon, France, in February of last year, the 23-year-old American immediately rose into the top 40 rankings in the world.

Her best Slam performance to date came in January when she made it to the third round of the Australian Open, but she lost 13 straight games after that. Only a first-round qualifying victory at the French Open last month ended that run.

She would, however, be feeling much better after returning to the headlines with her victory in Sunday’s WTA $125K title match on grass in Gaiba, Italy.

In the opening round, Parks, who along with Venus Williams has the fastest serve in a women’s Grand Slam match, takes on Katarzyna Kawa of Poland. She could play in a challenging group that also features 15-year-old British hope Hannah Klugman, where she could face 12th seed Darja Semenistaja in the second round and 28th seed Linda Fruhvirtova in the third round.

3. Katie Volynets

Katie Volynets (Image: X)

Though she was barely on the direct entry list a few weeks ago, 22-year-old Katie Volynets has climbed to No. 71 in the most recent world rankings. The American claimed victory on clay in a WTA $125K event held in Croatia earlier this month, and last week, he prevailed in a match played on grass in Birmingham.

In her opening match, Volynets, who is ranked first in the qualifying draw, will face Francisca Jorge of Portugal. The 19th seed Jana Fett in the third round and the 2023 junior champion Clervie Ngounoue in the second round could be her opponents.

4. Rebecca Marino

Rebecca Marino (Chris Trotman/Getty Images)

The slippery grass is ideal for Rebecca Marino’s style of play. The Canadian enjoys playing aggressive tennis and possesses a huge serve. She now has a decent deal of experience to support her as well.

The 33-year-old should feel more confident going into the qualifying draw after winning an ITF W100 title in Ilkley over the weekend. She will face the No. 20 seed and American McCartney Kessler in a difficult opening-round match. In an attempt to earn one of the qualifying spots, she might play the rising Australian Maya Joint, who is eighteen, in the second round. Then, she might take on Renata Zarazua, the third seed.

5. Harmony Tan

Harmony Tan (Image: X)

In what ended up being Serena Williams’ final match at the All England Club, Harmony Tan of France pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Wimbledon history two years ago by defeating the American in a third-set tiebreak.

Although Tan advanced to the fourth round over those two weeks, her career did not take the turn she had hoped for. Since then, the 26-year-old is still seeking her maiden Grand Slam triumph in the main draw. The Frenchwoman, who has an 8-2 record on grass in the ITF circuit, is coming into this week having won an ITF W50 event in March, which is her best finish since her incredible run.

She would need to defeat sixth seed Maria Timofeeva and 21st seed Marina Bassols Ribera in her division to advance to the main draw after facing Elvina Kalieva in the first round.

Richard Gasquet and David Goffin are among them.

For tennis lovers, the qualifying draw at any Grand Slam is a gold mine, often replete with elite players who have fallen in the rankings, budding stars, and those still waiting for their moment to show off on the biggest stages.

Each player will be trying to win three games over the next few days to punch their ticket into the main draw and ensure they receive at least a £60,000 check.

Let’s have a look at five players to watch out for at Wimbledon 2024 Men’s Singles Qualifiers

1. Richard Gasquet

Richard Gasquet (Image: X)

When it comes to his legacy at the grass-court Major, the French veteran is possibly the most well-known figure among the Wimbledon 2024 qualifiers. He advanced to the 2007 and 2015 semifinals twice.

This week’s second seed, Gasquet faces local player Oliver Crawford in the opening round and is expected to face Vit Kopriva, ranked sixteenth, in the championship match. With three ATP titles under his belt on grass, Gasquet’s background should undoubtedly come in handy as he looks to earn a spot in Wimbledon’s main event for the 18th time.

2. Joao Fonseca

Joao Fonseca (Image: X)

The 17-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca made history last year when he won the boys’ singles championship at the US Open and became the first player from his country to rank No. 1 in the junior world rankings. As he makes the jump to the professional circuit, the Brazilian has a lot of potential and can blast the ball with great power from the backcourt.

Fonseca advanced to his first ATP-level quarterfinal at the Rio Open earlier this year as a wildcard entrant, defeating Arthur Fils and Cristain Garin along the way. He then followed it up with another quarterfinal appearance in Bucharest. In the weeks preceding Wimbledon, he played two or three matches on grass, which ought to have given him enough time to get used to the intricacies of the surface.

The Brazilian’s draw at the Wimbledon qualifiers includes Damir Dzumhur, ranked 10th, and Matteo Gigante, ranked 29th.

3. David Goffin

The experienced Belgian player must compete in the Wimbledon 2024 main draw through the qualifying rounds as he was ranked slightly beyond the entry cut-off when direct entries were decided. Going into the qualifying rounds, Goffin should feel a lot more confident after winning the grass Ilkley Challenger lately.

Goffin has advanced to the finals in Halle and Rosmalen in past years, demonstrating his skill on grass. He is a two-time All-England Club quarterfinalist.

In an attempt to earn a tenth main draw spot at the grass-court Major, the ninth-seeded Belgian takes on Marc Polmans of Australia in the opening round. In the second round, he might play Tim van Rijthoven of the Netherlands, and in the third round, Bernabe Zapata Miralles of Spain.

4. Hamad Medjedovic

Hamad Medjedovic (Source: Getty Images)

Having Novak Djokovic at your side indicates he is really a talented player. For a while now, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has been a mentor to 20-year-old Hamad Medjedovic from Serbia, and he is starting to demonstrate to the rest of us why.

Three Grand Slams in the last two seasons, the French Open in 2023 and 2024 and Wimbledon in 2023 have already qualified Medjedovic after he won the Next Gen ATP Finals in December. This year in Rome, he also put fourth seed Daniil Medvedev to the test in an exciting third-round match.

The 17th-seeded Serb takes on the former junior Grand Slam champion Daniel Rincon in the opening round of the Wimbledon qualifying tournament. In the second round, he may play either seventh-seeded Gregoire Barrere or former top-10 player Diego Schwartzman.

5. Lucas Pouille

Lucas Pouille (Image: X)

The 30-year-old Frenchman is a top-tier player in the sport. Pouille, a 2016 Wimbledon quarterfinalist and former top 10 player, fell hard as a result of injuries and has been transparent about his struggles with alcoholism and despair since then.

After becoming a father, Pouille is content with his personal life and has spent the last 18 months regaining his position. He finished second in one ATP Challenger event this year and won another in Austria. He hasn’t yet participated in a game on grass in 2024, though.

If Pouille wishes to claim one of the 16 qualifying slots, he will have to overcome a group that includes two Frenchmen who are ranked, Luca van Assche and Harold Mayot.
