The 28-year-old Czech player defeated Jasmine Paolini in a thrilling three-set match.</p>
<h2>Here’s a look at five interesting things about Krejcikova’s life and career:</h2>
<h3>1. Lego Lover</h3>
<p>When she’s not playing tennis, Barbora Krejcikova loves building with Lego. She has a collection of detailed Lego models, including the Milky Way and a Dobby figure from Harry Potter. Krejcikova dreams of creating a Lego model of Wimbledon’s Centre Court one day. She said, “I have many of them actually. Yeah, I even received some from my team here. If there&#8217;s one for me, I&#8217;ll do that.”</p>
<h3>2. Coaching Change</h3>
<figure id="attachment_4403" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4403" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img decoding="async" class="wp-image-4403 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova-The-Wimbledon-Champion.webp" alt="Everything You Need to Know About Wimbledon Champion Barbora Krejcikova" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova-The-Wimbledon-Champion.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova-The-Wimbledon-Champion-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova-The-Wimbledon-Champion-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova-The-Wimbledon-Champion-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4403" class="wp-caption-text">Barbora Krejcikova The Wimbledon Champion</figcaption></figure>
<p>Barbora Krejcikova made a big change in her coaching team last year. She ended her partnership with Ales Kartus, who helped her win the French Open in 2021. Now, she works with Pavel Motl, a former schoolmate and occasional training partner. Motl, who doesn’t call himself a coach, works with Krejcikova in a less formal role. He recalls their past, saying, “Bara was 10 and she played in the village where I live. She beat our adult neighbor 6-0, 6-0.”</p>
<h3>3. Staying with Locals</h3>
<p>Barbora Krejcikova has a special tradition during tournaments, especially at Wimbledon. For the past ten years, she prefers to stay with a local family instead of in official tournament hotels. This choice makes her feel more at home. It’s a tradition she continues from her late coach, Jana Novotna, who stayed with the same family and won Wimbledon in 1998. Krejcikova says, “I remember thinking about her a lot. I have so many beautiful memories and when I step on the court I fight for every single ball as that is what she would want me to do.”</p>
<h3>4. Paris Olympics</h3>
<figure id="attachment_4405" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4405" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img decoding="async" class="wp-image-4405 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova.webp" alt="Everything You Need to Know About Wimbledon Champion Barbora Krejcikova" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Barbora-Krejcikova-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4405" class="wp-caption-text">Barbora Krejcikova</figcaption></figure>
<p>Barbora Krejcikova was prepared for the Paris Olympics. But the luck was not beside her she lost to Anna Karolina She plans to team up again with Katerina Siniakova to try to win their doubles title at the <a href="https://olympics.com/en/olympic-games/tokyo-2020" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tokyo Olympics</a>. Even though they briefly played with other partners, they are back together for the upcoming games.</p>
<h3>5. Skipping School for Tennis</h3>
<p>As a kid, Barbora Krejcikova cleverly used tennis to avoid school. She enjoyed playing in junior finals because they were scheduled on Mondays, letting her skip school. “I always liked playing the finals at minor tournaments because we played on Mondays and I didn&#8217;t have to go to school. That was my goal for the weekend,” she said.</p>
<p>Barbora Krejcikova’s hobbies, career changes, and personal traditions make her a unique and inspiring tennis player.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, instead of celebrating when the final point was played, de Minaur appeared concerned. <h3 style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">What is a walkover in tennis?</span></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3951" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3951" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3951 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Iga-Swiatek.webp" alt="What is a walkover in tennis?" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Iga-Swiatek.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Iga-Swiatek-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Iga-Swiatek-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Iga-Swiatek-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3951" class="wp-caption-text">Iga Swiatek (AP Photo/Alberto Pezzali)</figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Walkovers are quite common in tennis due to the short turnaround between matches and the demanding schedule. The term is commonly used when a player withdraws before the start of a match. Doing so in the middle of a match is referred to as retirement.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">To play the scheduled match, a lucky loser is called to replace a player who withdraws before their first-round match. However, when this occurs in the later rounds, a player advances to the following round without taking a single shot.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aside from Novak Djokovic&#8217;s walkover against de Minaur, there has only been one other instance of it this Wimbledon season. Lucas Pouille retired earlier to their third-round encounter with an injury, thus the Australian benefited from it.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">While only a few walkovers have been granted at <a href="https://sportingscroll.com/2024/andy-murray-to-retire-from-tennis-after-wimbledon/3872/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wimbledon this year</a>, there have been numerous mid-match retirements throughout the event. Madison Keys was on the verge of triumph in her fourth-round match against Jasmine Paolini but had to call it quits at 5-5 in the third set.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Grigor Dimitrov was unable to complete the first set of his fourth-round match against <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniil_Medvedev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daniil Medvedev</a> and was forced to withdraw at 5-3. Other players who retired from the competition included Anna Kalinskaya, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Camila Osorio, Thanasi Kokkinakis, and Hubert Hurkacz.</span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Novak Djokovic to face either Taylor Fritz or Lorenzo Musetti in the Wimbledon semifinals</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">A walkover was hardly how Djokovic envisioned himself reaching the Wimbledon semifinals. Nonetheless, he would be pleased to be another step closer to a 25th Major title. He could face Taylor Fritz or Lorenzo Musetti next.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Serb leads Fritz 9-0 in their head-to-head matchup and also has a 5-1 advantage over Musetti. He will be the clear favourite to defeat either of them and advance to another final at the All-England Club.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">If Djokovic makes it to the summit, he might face Carlos Alcaraz in a rematch from last year&#8217;s final. Daniil Medvedev, on the other hand, has the potential to play spoiler and eliminate the Spaniard to reach the final. In any case, the championship round promises to be entertaining.</span></p>

The British tennis legend announced on Tuesday (July 2) that he would not compete in the singles event at the All England Club due to inadequate recovery from spinal cyst surgery, despite being scheduled to face Tomas Machac in the first round. Andy Murray decided he was not ready to play singles shortly after surgery to remove a cyst on his spin. </span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, fans will still see Andy Murray in action as he teams up with his brother Jamie for the doubles tournament, which could be his final appearance at Wimbledon. Murray has indicated plans to hang up his racket post-Paris Olympics, provided his fitness allows him to compete.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Wednesday, the England club announced there would be at least one match and one chance for fans to see Andy Murray at Wimbledon Grass Court.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The All England Club announced on Wednesday that Andy Murray and 2021 U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu have been awarded a wild-card entry for mixed doubles, giving fans at least one more chance to see him play at the tournament with which he is most closely associated.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;I will make the most of it,&#8221; Andy Murray said of his farewell to Wimbledon, the grass-court Grand Slam tournament where he won titles in 2013 and 2016, the first of which made him the first British man to win in singles at the All England Club in 77 years. &#8220;It is easier said than done to enjoy yourself when you are out there because you are competing and concentrating to win the match.&#8221;</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">One would imagine that the viewers would simply enjoy watching, regardless of the outcome.</span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Brother Jamie Murray on Andy Murray&#8217;s Retirement</span></h3>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;Most people already have ideas and opinions about him, what he represents to them, and what he brings to the tennis court. <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Andy Murray has stated that he plans to retire after the Paris Olympics, which will be held at Roland Garros, the site of the <a href="https://www.rolandgarros.com/en-us/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">French Open</a>, and begin on July 27.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The fact that he declared his retirement in 2019—a year after his first hip surgery and just before his second—and that a ceremony and tribute video were played following Murray&#8217;s first-round defeat at the Australian Open in January are points of contention for detractors. Naturally, he came back, performing on a prosthetic hip.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;You never know.&#8221; He might return next year. I do not know,&#8221; said Katie Boulter, a British player seeded 32nd in the women&#8217;s bracket. “Never say ‘never’ with Andy.”</span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Achievements of Andy Murray</span></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3875" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3875" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3875 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Achievemnets-of-Andy-Murray.webp" alt="Achievements of Andy Murray" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Achievemnets-of-Andy-Murray.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Achievemnets-of-Andy-Murray-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Achievemnets-of-Andy-Murray-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Achievemnets-of-Andy-Murray-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3875" class="wp-caption-text">Achievements of Andy Murray</figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Andy Murray has many accomplishments. Three Grand Slam titles, including the 2012 U.S. Open. The year-end number one ranking in 2016. The only tennis player with more than one Olympic singles title, he won two gold medals in a row at the 2012 and 2016 <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_Olympic_Games" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Summer Olympics</a>.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">He became Britain&#8217;s most significant tennis player in decades, earning enormous popularity and a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II, while also remaining an outspoken statesman in his sport, expressing views on a variety of issues, particularly those affecting women. His hiring of Amelie Mauresmo as his coach was groundbreaking.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;He is the best role model for any British tennis player, particularly a Scottish player like myself. &#8221;  I watched him grow up,&#8221; said Jacob Fearnley, a singles wild card who will face 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic on Centre Court on Thursday. &#8220;The way he climbed the rankings, the way he competes, the way he plays—it is very special to see.&#8221;</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Coco Gauff, last year&#8217;s US Open champion, and other female players have recently spoken out about Murray&#8217;s support for women in the sport.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Gauff recalled a viral video of Andy Murray speaking at a Wimbledon news conference in 2017 when a reporter referred to Sam Querrey as &#8220;the first American player to reach the semifinals of a Slam since 2009,&#8221; and Murray interrupted to point out that Querrey was the first &#8220;male player&#8221; from the United States to do so in that period, even though plenty of women had done so.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I do appreciate him. Not only him but also his mother, for everything they’ve done for equality in women’s sports,” Gauff said.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">As for Murray, the athlete, Gauff mentioned a quality that plenty of others did, too.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;I believe his legacy is that he is simply a fighter.&#8221; The most inspiring thing about him is that no matter where he plays, whether it is (at a low-level event) or Centre Court here, he gives it his all,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It is unfortunate he could not get one more healthy (singles) match out here because I believe he deserves to end his career on his terms. I hope the doubles go well. He is a sports icon. &#8220;He has had an incredible career that many people dream of.&#8221;</span></p>

On the Roehampton courts, 128 players will compete for one of 16 qualifying spots in the main draw as well as a guaranteed 60,000-pound check in prize money.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In 1999, American Alexandra Stevenson advanced to the main draw and reached the semifinals. Is it possible for someone to accomplish the same feat this year, or maybe emulate Emma Raducanu&#8217;s successful Grand Slam qualifying career?</span></p>
<p><b>Let’s have a look at five players to watch out for at Wimbledon 2024 Women’s Singles Qualifiers</b></p>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">1. Amanda Anisimova</span></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3749" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3749" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3749 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Amanda-Anisimova.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Women’s Singles Qualifiers" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Amanda-Anisimova.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Amanda-Anisimova-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Amanda-Anisimova-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Amanda-Anisimova-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3749" class="wp-caption-text">Amanda Anisimova (Getty Images: Robert Prange)</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Amanda Anisimova is one of the most natural ball strikers in women&#8217;s tennis. The American strikes the ball with a combination of effortlessness and force.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Even at the young age of 22, Anisimova has already experienced both the highs and lows of the game, including the death of her father and taking a year off from competition due to burnout and mental health issues. Her highs include two WTA titles, a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon, and a French Open semi-final.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The American returned to the tour in January after an eight-month absence and advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open. Although Anisimova is only 6-7 for the season, she is a player to watch at Roehampton because of her much more balanced approach to life and her job.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the first round, she faces Greek player Valentini Grammatikopoulou in the second round, she might face fourth seed Hailey Baptiste. In her attempt to secure a spot in the Wimbledon main draw, she may face 25th seed Eva Lys in the third round.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">2. Alycia Parks</span></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3748" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3748" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3748 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Alycia-Parks.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Women’s Singles Qualifiers" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Alycia-Parks.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Alycia-Parks-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Alycia-Parks-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Alycia-Parks-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3748" class="wp-caption-text">Alycia Parks (Image: Boris Streubel)</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Alycia Parks has long been on the radar. Following her victory in Lyon, France, in February of last year, the 23-year-old American immediately rose into the top 40 rankings in the world.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Her best Slam performance to date came in January when she made it to the third round of the Australian Open, but she lost 13 straight games after that. Only a first-round qualifying victory at the French Open last month ended that run.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She would, however, be feeling much better after returning to the headlines with her victory in Sunday&#8217;s WTA $125K title match on grass in Gaiba, Italy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the opening round, Parks, who along with Venus Williams has the fastest serve in a women&#8217;s <a href="https://www.usopen.org/en_US/visit/grand_slam_alltime_champions.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Grand Slam</a> match, takes on Katarzyna Kawa of Poland. She could play in a challenging group that also features 15-year-old British hope Hannah Klugman, where she could face 12th seed Darja Semenistaja in the second round and 28th seed Linda Fruhvirtova in the third round.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">3. Katie Volynets</span></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3747" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3747" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-3747" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Katie-Volynets.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Women’s Singles Qualifiers" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Katie-Volynets.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Katie-Volynets-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Katie-Volynets-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Katie-Volynets-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3747" class="wp-caption-text">Katie Volynets (Image: X)</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Though she was barely on the direct entry list a few weeks ago, 22-year-old Katie Volynets has climbed to No. 71 in the most recent world rankings. The American claimed victory on clay in a WTA $125K event held in Croatia earlier this month, and last week, he prevailed in a match played on grass in Birmingham.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In her opening match, Volynets, who is ranked first in the qualifying draw, will face Francisca Jorge of Portugal. The 19th seed Jana Fett in the third round and the 2023 junior champion Clervie Ngounoue in the second round could be her opponents.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">4. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rebecca Marino</span></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3745" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3745" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3745 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Rebecca-Marino.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Women’s Singles Qualifiers" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Rebecca-Marino.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Rebecca-Marino-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Rebecca-Marino-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Rebecca-Marino-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3745" class="wp-caption-text">Rebecca Marino (Chris Trotman/Getty Images)</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The slippery grass is ideal for Rebecca Marino&#8217;s style of play. The Canadian enjoys playing aggressive tennis and possesses a huge serve. She now has a decent deal of experience to support her as well.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 33-year-old should feel more confident going into the qualifying draw after winning an ITF W100 title in Ilkley over the weekend. She will face the No. 20 seed and American McCartney Kessler in a difficult opening-round match. In an attempt to earn one of the qualifying spots, she might play the rising Australian Maya Joint, who is eighteen, in the second round. Then, she might take on Renata Zarazua, the third seed.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">5. Harmony Tan</span></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3746" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3746" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3746 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Tarmony-Tan.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Women’s Singles Qualifiers" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Tarmony-Tan.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Tarmony-Tan-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Tarmony-Tan-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Tarmony-Tan-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3746" class="wp-caption-text">Harmony Tan (Image: X)</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In what ended up being Serena Williams&#8217; final match at the All England Club, Harmony Tan of France pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Wimbledon history two years ago by defeating the American in a third-set tiebreak.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Although Tan advanced to the fourth round over those two weeks, her career did not take the turn she had hoped for. Since then, the 26-year-old is still seeking her maiden Grand Slam triumph in the main draw. The Frenchwoman, who has an 8-2 record on grass in the ITF circuit, is coming into this week having won an ITF W50 event in March, which is her best finish since her incredible run.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She would need to defeat sixth seed Maria Timofeeva and 21st seed Marina Bassols Ribera in her division to advance to the main draw after facing Elvina Kalieva in the first round.</span></p>

Richard Gasquet and David Goffin are among them. </span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">For tennis lovers, the qualifying draw at any Grand Slam is a gold mine, often replete with elite players who have fallen in the rankings, budding stars, and those still waiting for their moment to show off on the biggest stages. </span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Each player will be trying to win three games over the next few days to punch their ticket into the main draw and ensure they receive at least a £60,000 check.</span></p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;"><b>Let’s have a look at five players to watch out for at Wimbledon 2024 Men’s Singles Qualifiers</b></h2>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>1. Richard Gasquet</strong></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3718" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3718" style="width: 900px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3718 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Richard-Gasquet.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Men’s Single Qualifiers" width="900" height="600" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Richard-Gasquet.webp 900w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Richard-Gasquet-300x200.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Richard-Gasquet-768x512.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3718" class="wp-caption-text"><em>Richard Gasquet (Image: X)</em></figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When it comes to his legacy at the grass-court Major, the French veteran is possibly the most well-known figure among the Wimbledon 2024 qualifiers. He advanced to the 2007 and 2015 semifinals twice.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This week&#8217;s second seed, Gasquet faces local player Oliver Crawford in the opening round and is expected to face Vit Kopriva, ranked sixteenth, in the championship match. With three ATP titles under his belt on grass, Gasquet&#8217;s background should undoubtedly come in handy as he looks to earn a spot in Wimbledon&#8217;s main event for the 18th time.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>2. Joao Fonseca</strong></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3717" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3717" style="width: 1040px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3717 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Joao-Fonseca.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Men’s Single Qualifiers" width="1040" height="572" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Joao-Fonseca.webp 1040w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Joao-Fonseca-300x165.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Joao-Fonseca-1024x563.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Joao-Fonseca-768x422.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1040px) 100vw, 1040px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3717" class="wp-caption-text"><em>Joao Fonseca (Image: X)</em></figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 17-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca made history last year when he won the boys&#8217; singles championship at the <a href="https://www.usopen.org/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">US Open</a> and became the first player from his country to rank No. 1 in the junior world rankings. As he makes the jump to the professional circuit, the Brazilian has a lot of potential and can blast the ball with great power from the backcourt.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fonseca advanced to his first ATP-level quarterfinal at the Rio Open earlier this year as a wildcard entrant, defeating Arthur Fils and Cristain Garin along the way. He then followed it up with another quarterfinal appearance in Bucharest. In the weeks preceding Wimbledon, he played two or three matches on grass, which ought to have given him enough time to get used to the intricacies of the surface.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Brazilian&#8217;s draw at the Wimbledon qualifiers includes Damir Dzumhur, ranked 10th, and Matteo Gigante, ranked 29th.</span></p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>3. David Goffin</strong></h2>
<figure id="attachment_3716" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3716" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3716 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/David-Goffin.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Men’s Single Qualifiers" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/David-Goffin.webp 1200w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/David-Goffin-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/David-Goffin-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/David-Goffin-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3716" class="wp-caption-text"><em>David Goffin (Image: X)</em></figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The experienced Belgian player must compete in the Wimbledon 2024 main draw through the qualifying rounds as he was ranked slightly beyond the entry cut-off when direct entries were decided. Going into the qualifying rounds, Goffin should feel a lot more confident after winning the grass Ilkley Challenger lately.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Goffin has advanced to the finals in Halle and Rosmalen in past years, demonstrating his skill on grass. He is a two-time All-England Club quarterfinalist.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">In an attempt to earn a tenth main draw spot at the grass-court Major, the ninth-seeded Belgian takes on Marc Polmans of Australia in the opening round. In the second round, he might play Tim van Rijthoven of the Netherlands, and in the third round, Bernabe Zapata Miralles of Spain.</span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><strong>4. Hamad Medjedovic</strong></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3715" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3715" style="width: 1024px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3715 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Hamad-Medjedovic.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Men’s Single Qualifiers" width="1024" height="576" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Hamad-Medjedovic.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Hamad-Medjedovic-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Hamad-Medjedovic-768x432.webp 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3715" class="wp-caption-text"><em>Hamad Medjedovic (Source: Getty Images)</em></figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Having Novak Djokovic at your side indicates he is really a talented player. For a while now, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has been a mentor to 20-year-old Hamad Medjedovic from Serbia, and he is starting to demonstrate to the rest of us why.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Three Grand Slams in the last two seasons, the <a href="https://www.rolandgarros.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">French Open</a> in 2023 and 2024 and Wimbledon in 2023 have already qualified Medjedovic after he won the Next Gen ATP Finals in December. This year in Rome, he also put fourth seed Daniil Medvedev to the test in an exciting third-round match.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 17th-seeded Serb takes on the former junior Grand Slam champion Daniel Rincon in the opening round of the Wimbledon qualifying tournament. In the second round, he may play either seventh-seeded Gregoire Barrere or former top-10 player Diego Schwartzman.</span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><b>5. Lucas Pouille</b></h3>
<figure id="attachment_3714" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3714" style="width: 2560px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-3714 size-full" src="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Lucas-Pouille.webp" alt="Wimbledon 2024: 5 Players to Look Out For at Men’s Single Qualifiers" width="2560" height="1440" srcset="https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Lucas-Pouille.webp 2560w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Lucas-Pouille-300x169.webp 300w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Lucas-Pouille-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Lucas-Pouille-768x432.webp 768w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Lucas-Pouille-1536x864.webp 1536w, https://sportingscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Lucas-Pouille-2048x1152.webp 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3714" class="wp-caption-text"><em>Lucas Pouille (Image: X)</em></figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 30-year-old Frenchman is a top-tier player in the sport. Pouille, a 2016 Wimbledon quarterfinalist and former top 10 player, fell hard as a result of injuries and has been transparent about his struggles with alcoholism and despair since then.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">After becoming a father, Pouille is content with his personal life and has spent the last 18 months regaining his position. He finished second in one ATP Challenger event this year and won another in Austria. He hasn&#8217;t yet participated in a game on grass in 2024, though.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">If Pouille wishes to claim one of the 16 qualifying slots, he will have to overcome a group that includes two Frenchmen who are ranked, Luca van Assche and Harold Mayot.</span></p>
