Veteran wrestling journalist Bill Apter recently discussed John Cena’s potential final matches in WWE. The superstar is set for a farewell run in 2025.

Earlier this year, Cena appeared at Money in the Bank and shared his plan to retire from wrestling next year. He also announced a final tour with WWE, inviting fans to join him for the journey.

In a recent Q&A with Wrestlevotes, Apter suggested that Austin Theory might challenge Cena again. Their match at WrestleMania 39 didn’t meet expectations, and Apter believes the two could have another go at it. He mentioned that Theory has grown as a performer, having won multiple championships since their last encounter.

“This may sound strange, but that match with Austin Theory was a disaster years ago,” Apter said. “Theory is now a much better wrestler. I think it would be exciting to see him call out Cena, saying, ‘That match was terrible, one of the worst in WWE history. Let’s do it again, Cena.’”

With WWE RAW moving to Netflix next year, it will be intriguing to see when Cena returns to the WWE screen.

He shared that he would participate in events like the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41. Cena intends to wrestle until the end of 2025, aiming to perform in about 30-40 events.

“Why am I here?” Cena asked the audience. “Tonight, I officially announce my retirement from WWE.”

For the last five years, Cena has been a part-time WWE performer while focusing on his growing acting career. He’s known for playing The Peacemaker in the 2021 Suicide Squad movie and appearing in Fast X.

Since his debut against Kurt Angle in 2002, Cena has been a mainstay in WWE, holding the WWE Championship 16 times and headlining WrestleMania five times. His final ‘Mania main events were in 2012 and 2013, both against The Rock. His most recent match was a loss to Solo Sikoa in November, and he last appeared at WrestleMania 40, confronting The Rock once again.

Along with his wrestling legacy, Cena has granted over 650 wishes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. His farewell tour, named “The Last Time is Now John Cena Farewell Tour,” is a tribute to his iconic theme song.

Wrestlers usually appear in the alumni section after they leave the company. Therefore, Jones’ absence from this list might indicate that he’s still with WWE. Despite this, there has been no official confirmation regarding his removal from the roster page.

WWE’s silence on the matter does seem unsettling, but it’s likely nothing serious. Jones showed great promise during his WWE debut, and the New Day provides an excellent environment for a rising star like him. There’s much to learn from veterans like Xavier Woods and, especially, Kofi Kingston.

If Jones’ removal was an oversight, WWE will probably correct it soon. However, if his contract has been terminated, we might hear something in the coming weeks. Fans are hoping this is just a mistake on WWE’s part. Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer believes that Jones may be finished with WWE.
