Patrick Cantlay remains the man to beat at the 2024 Genesis Invitational after leading through all three rounds of the prestigious tournament. Despite facing stiff competition, Cantlay will head into the final round at Riviera Country Club with a two-stroke lead over Xander Schauffele and Will Zalatoris after shooting a solid 1-under 70 in the third round on Saturday.
Cantlay’s performance on Moving Day differed from his dominant display in the first two rounds. While he held a commanding five-stroke lead after 36 holes, his challengers closed the gap with relentless pursuit. Schauffele, in particular, made an early move with an eagle on the par-5 1st, applying pressure on Cantlay’s lead. However, Cantlay maintained composure and responded with crucial birdies to keep his advantage intact.
Despite the intense competition, Cantlay’s lead fluctuated between three and four strokes for most of the back nine. However, a late bogey on the par-5 17th tightened the race, reducing Cantlay’s lead to just two strokes heading into the final round.
