Antim Panghal is an Indian wrestler who has created waves in the wrestling world in the last couple of years. Antim is also the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the U-20 wrestling world championships.

Antim Panghal is already a two-time Under-20 world champion and an Asian Games, Asian Championships and senior world wrestling championships medal winner.

Born on August 31, 2004, in Bhagana village of Haryana’s Hisar district, Panghal had a chance upon wrestling in a typical way. When she was a young girl, her elder sister Sarita took her to the Mahavir Stadium in Hisar city for a wrestling programme. This is how Panghal’s wrestling journey began.

With great support from family, Panghal received good coaching and is now one of the rising stars on the mat. She has established herself as a promising wrestler by achieving success at various levels.

Antim Panghal, meanwhile, quickly recovered from the heartbreak to win the women’s 53kg division at the 2022 Zouhaier Sghaier Ranking Series to bag her first senior gold medal in July.

 2023 World Championships

Antim won a bronze medal in the 2023 World Championship in Belgrade. After losing to Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus, Antim Panghal defeated Jonna Malmgren of Sweden in the bronze medal match.

 2023 Asian Games

Antim took part at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou purely by chance in what became her Asian Games debut. She replaced Vinesh Phogat in the 53 kg category due to last minute injury to her. She did not disappoint and bagged a bronze medal.   

Following a loss to Fujinami in the quarters, Panghal defeated Mongolia’s Bat-Ochiryn Bolortuyaa, a bronze medallist from 2020 Tokyo Olympics, to secure a podium finish.

2022 Under-20 World Wrestling Championships 

Antim Panghal won a historic gold medal at the U-20 World Wrestling Championships 2022 in Sofia to become the first Indian to win the title in the competition’s history.
