Spain’s Lamine Yamal Becomes Youngest Goal Scorer In Euro History
At 16 years and 362 days, the wonderkid Lamine Yamal became the youngest goal skipper at Euros in Spain’s 2-1 victory over France in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

The previous youngest scorer at a European Championship was Swiss player Johan Vonlanthen who was 18 years and 141 days old when he netted against France at Euro 2004.
Spain were 1-0 down against France when in the 21st minute Yamal curled the ball past France goalkeeper Mike Maignan from outside the box and dispatched it to the top left corner of the net.
“I only ask to win, win and win,” said Yamal, who was declared player of the match.
The 75000 football fans at the Allianz Arena stadium held their breath on witnessing not just a history being made but how. Many described Yamal’s goal as “goal for ages”.

“I don’t know if it is the best goal of the tournament, but it is the most special goal for me because it is my first goal with the team at a European Championship,” he said. “We were in a difficult stretch after not expecting to concede so early. I just took the ball and wanted to put it right there”, he added

Yamal had landed in Germany with school homework and an exam to pass. He passed his school exams two weeks ago just ahead of Spain’s Round of 16 match against Georgia. Reaching the final of Euro in his tournament debut has been nothing short of a dream. Winning the title in his debut would be a historic feat for Yamal.
“We are very happy to reach the final. Now comes the most important part — winning the title,” Yamal said. “I don’t try to think about it too much, just enjoy myself and help the team, and if it goes my way, then I am happy (for the goal) and for the win.”

Yamal will turn 17 on July 13, a day before the final of Euro 2024. Lifting the Euro trophy would be a perfect way to enter in the new year for the teenager.
