Lovlina Borgohain is one of the most prominent boxers India has produced. She has extended the legacy of women’s boxing in India.
Coming from a humble background from a village in Assam, Borgohain struggled her way through to make it big on the international stage. She has won medals on various occasions for India to become one of the most decorated boxers from the country.
Lovlina Borgohain tasted her first major international success when she won a bronze at the 2017 Asian Championships in Ho Chi Minh city. She won the medal in the welterweight category.
The boxer then bagged another bronze at the 2019 World Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia, in the same category.
She won a gold medal at the 1st India Open International Boxing Tournament in New Delhi in 2018.
The pugilist got her career’s biggest break when she was selected to participate in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in the welterweight boxing category. However, she crashed out in the quarterfinal round.

2021 Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Borgohain won a historic bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She became the third Indian boxer after Mary Kom and Vijender Singh to win an Olympic medal. She defeated Taiwan’s Chen Nien-chin, after which she was assured of a medal.
Out of the nine Indian boxers, including the legendary Mary Kom, who participated at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Borgohain was the only one who got home with a medal.
2023 World Championships
Lovlina Borgohain achieved her maiden world title in the middleweight division (75kg) at the 2023 World Boxing Championships in New Delhi.
Borgohain beat Australia’s Caitlin Parker 5-2 in the final of the world championships.

2022 Asian Championships
The boxer from Assam won a gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championships 2022 in the middleweight category. In her previous two appearances at the Asian championships, she had to settle for bronze medals.
Borgohain defeated Ruzmetova Sokhiba of Uzbekistan 5-0 for her first gold medal at the Asian championships.
