Know How Much India’s Trip To Paris Olympics Will Cost

The amount will be spent on travel, accommodation, equipment and logistical needs of athletes, support staff and government and delegates of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) at the Paris Games that will be held from July 26 to August 11.

India is set to shell out a whopping amount of Rs 33.68 crore to send its contingent to Paris Olympics 2024. The cost to the public exchequer is more than double that of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The amount will be spent on travel, accommodation, equipment and logistical needs of athletes, support staff and government and delegates of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) at the Paris Olympics 2024 that will be held from July 26 to August 11.

The IOA have worked on the budget considering the strength of the Indian contingent, which will comprise 195 members. 

The Budget Breakdown 

A total of Rs 14 million has been earmarked for athlete-related activities, including cash reward for athletes and teams to win medals for the country.

A major share of the overall budget, comprising Rs 12 million, will be taken care of by the Sports Ministry of India.

The flight tickets to the city of Eiffel Tower for 195 people will sit at Rs 3.41 million.

At $50 for 25 days for 195 people, Rs 2.04 million will be budgeted on out-of-pocket expenses through the summer games.

A staggering amount of Rs 18.90 crore will be allocated to delegates, IOA executive committee (EC) members and headquarters officials. The Travel Allowance (TA) and Dearness Allowance (DA) paid to EC members alone will cost a significant amount of Rs 8.4 crore.

Rs 1.2 million will be spent on EC representatives’ visits to the ceremonies and their tickets to the various events. Most prominent members of the EC to accompany the Indian contingent would be IOC president PT Usha, senior vice-president Ajay H Patel and treasurer Sahdev Yadav, among others.

According to reports, the IOA will also provide a cash grant to the athletes and support staff who are part of the Indian contingent. While athletes will fetch Rs 2 lakh each, the technical and support staff will receive Rs 1 lakh each.

The amount of Rs 33.68 crore that the Indian exchequer is set to pump in for the Paris Olympics 2024 is remarkably higher than the figure of 13.13 million that was spent for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
