Mirabai Chanu is one of the most acclaimed weightlifters of India. She has brought home many laurels winning several medals in international stages.
Chanu has become the face of weightlifting in India ever since winning a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in the 48 kg category.
The 29-year-old is one of the prominent medal contenders of India in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.
Before the Paris Games kicks-off on July 26, let us have a look at five top performances of Mirabai Chanu:
World Championships 2017
After a major setback at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where she failed in all her three attempts at clean and jerk, Mirabai Chanu came back strong to clinch a gold medal at the 2027 Weightlifting World Championships Anaheim.
In the 48 kg category, Chanu lifted 85 kg in snatch and 109 kg in clean and jerk, amounting to a total of 194 kg. She gave India the first gold medal since Karnam Malleswari’s back-to-back victories in 1994 and 1995.
Commonwealth Games 2018
The weightlifter from Manipur lifted a total of 196 kg, 86 kg in snatch and 110 kg in clean and jerk, to bag the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
With those figures, Chanu broke the previous Commonwealth Games record held by Augustine Nwaokolo of Nigeria in 2010.
Commonwealth Games 2022
Mirabai Chanu returned to the Commonwealth Games as a formidable force and shattered her own previous Games record. She lifted a total of 201 kg with 88 kg in snatch and 113 in clean and jerk to defend her gold medal in Birmingham.

World Championships 2022
Chanu participated at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Bogota with a wrist injury.
With a total lift of 200 kg (87 kg snatch + 113 kg clean and jerk), the Indian weightlifter finished second in the podium and brought home the silver medal.

Tokyo Olympic 2020
Mirabai Chanu became the first participant to give India a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Competing in the 49 kg category, Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg snatch + 115 kg clean and jerk) to win a silver medal. She fell short behind China’s Hou Zhihui, who finished first with a combined lift of 210 kg.
Chanu became the second Indian weightlifter, after Karnam Malleswari at Sydney 2000, to win an Olympic medal. This has so far been the brightest spot of Chanu’s weightlifting career.
