Other Notable Performances At The US Open 2025

Robert MacIntyre, the Scottish left-hander, finished runner-up at one over par. He played a steady final round and set the clubhouse lead, but Spaun’s late heroics edged him out. Viktor Hovland, from Norway, took third place, adding another strong finish in a major to his record.

Tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler finished in a tie for seventh, five shots behind Spaun, continuing his streak of top-10 finishes at majors. The tough Oakmont course and heavy rain made life difficult for everyone, and several big names struggled to keep up with the changing conditions.

Aditi Ashok was two shots beyond the cut line at five-over on Friday, another challenging scoring day at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, when she emerged from her final hole, the ninth green, at around midday.

The stunning Sahalee Country Club course bared its teeth on the second day, and the Indian ace, who had shot an even-par 72 on the first, wasn’t the only one who suffered. The top names struggled on this tree-lined course where precision is crucial, particularly world No. 1 Nelly Korda.

Aditi Ashok’s Performance

Aditi Ashok whose two-day total was five over 149, just made the cut line when the final group arrived six hours later. Despite having six victories this season, Korda fired an uncharacteristically low nine-over 81, her worst round as a professional, missing the cut by one stroke for the third week in a row.

In the chase for her maiden victory, American Sarah Schmelzel fired a scorching five-under 67 to take the lead with a two-day total of six-under 138. Later in the day, Amy Yang (68) of Korea joined her. The two of them were two strokes better than Lexi Thompson (72), Hinako Shibuno (70), and Jin Young Ko (68). Known for her accuracy while putting, Aditi Ashok had a rough day on the greens. The 26-year-old, who is ranked sixth on the Tour in putting average, missed a few of putts that would have made birdie in the 10–12 foot range and needed 33 putts total for the round—four more than her average.

The silver medallist from the Asian Games was also having some difficulty with her hitting. She made two excellent par saves before finding the greenside bunker on the 12th hole, which resulted in a bogey five. However, Aditi’s difficulties started after she won the turn at one-over. She bogeyed the first and fifth holes, missing the par putts from approximately eight feet away on the tee shot, and the eighth and ninth holes, which were the last two.

Some golfers were offended when they saw Korda crying on the course.

“Trying my best not to hate on this but my lord be a competitor, save it for the locker room,” a fan remarked.

“What just happened?” A few weeks ago, she was the happiest person alive,” another fan stated.

“Sports are emotional.” But I typically wait till I get home,” said an additional fan.

Another supporter said, “This is a travesty for women’s sports.”

Even though golf is a very difficult game, it’s uncommon to see a player cry while playing.

With any luck, Nelly Korda can use this as a lesson and end the 2024 golf season strong.
