Aditi Ashok was two shots beyond the cut line at five-over on Friday, another challenging scoring day at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, when she emerged from her final hole, the ninth green, at around midday.

The stunning Sahalee Country Club course bared its teeth on the second day, and the Indian ace, who had shot an even-par 72 on the first, wasn’t the only one who suffered. The top names struggled on this tree-lined course where precision is crucial, particularly world No. 1 Nelly Korda.

Aditi Ashok’s Performance

Aditi Ashok whose two-day total was five over 149, just made the cut line when the final group arrived six hours later. Despite having six victories this season, Korda fired an uncharacteristically low nine-over 81, her worst round as a professional, missing the cut by one stroke for the third week in a row.

In the chase for her maiden victory, American Sarah Schmelzel fired a scorching five-under 67 to take the lead with a two-day total of six-under 138. Later in the day, Amy Yang (68) of Korea joined her. The two of them were two strokes better than Lexi Thompson (72), Hinako Shibuno (70), and Jin Young Ko (68). Known for her accuracy while putting, Aditi Ashok had a rough day on the greens. The 26-year-old, who is ranked sixth on the Tour in putting average, missed a few of putts that would have made birdie in the 10–12 foot range and needed 33 putts total for the round—four more than her average.

The silver medallist from the Asian Games was also having some difficulty with her hitting. She made two excellent par saves before finding the greenside bunker on the 12th hole, which resulted in a bogey five. However, Aditi’s difficulties started after she won the turn at one-over. She bogeyed the first and fifth holes, missing the par putts from approximately eight feet away on the tee shot, and the eighth and ninth holes, which were the last two.

Nelly Korda’s Spotted Crying on the Course

Nelly Korda

Nelly Korda is perhaps the best women’s golfer in the world, but she has recently struggled.

Korda failed to cut at this weekend’s Women’s PGA Championship, which was held at Sahalee Country Club.

After shooting an 81 on her second round, Nelly Korda remarked, “It’s just golf lately for me.” “I can’t express how I’m playing at the moment. I’m simply going to try to reset when I go home.”

Some golfers were offended when they saw Korda crying on the course.

“Trying my best not to hate on this but my lord be a competitor, save it for the locker room,” a fan remarked.

“What just happened?” A few weeks ago, she was the happiest person alive,” another fan stated.

“Sports are emotional.” But I typically wait till I get home,” said an additional fan.

Another supporter said, “This is a travesty for women’s sports.”

Even though golf is a very difficult game, it’s uncommon to see a player cry while playing.

With any luck, Nelly Korda can use this as a lesson and end the 2024 golf season strong.

With six holes remaining, DeChambeau was overtaken by McIlroy, but he maintained his poise over Pinehurst’s dome-shaped greens and sandy waste areas to win the championship.

McIlroy led by two shots with five holes to play after being denied in his effort to snap a 10-year major victory drought.

However, the four-time national winner from Northern Ireland bogeyed three of the final four holes, including two short par putts at 16 and 18, to assist Bryson DeChambeau capture the trophy.

“I still can’t believe it,” DeChambeau admitted. “It’s unbelievable.”

DeChambeau, who also won the 2020 US Open, scored a one-over-par 71 to finish at six-under-par 274, while McIlroy shot 69 to finish at 275 after 72 holes.

In addition to winning the $4.3 million winner’s share of a record $21.5 million purse, DeChambeau will move up from 38th to 10th in the next world rankings and have five more years to compete in all majors.

In a collapse similar to Greg Norman’s historic 1996 Masters last-round loss to Nick Faldo, McIlroy missed par putts from 2.5 feet at the par-4 16th and just inside four feet at the par-4 18th — nerve-racking bogeys that put McIlroy one back in the thriller.

“Being able to fight against a great like that is pretty special,” DeChambeau said of McIlroy, who exited the course without speaking to the media following his excruciating fall.

“I wouldn’t want him to miss that putt (at 18).” It simply happened to work out that way,” DeChambeau explained.

Best Shot of My Life: Bryson DeChambeau

Bryson DeChambeau (Image: X)

Bryson DeChambeau found dirt, weeds, and a bunker at 18, but he blasted his third ball to four feet and sank his pressure-packed putt to win.

“I was not great today but I got out of trouble well and then, man, I can’t believe that up and down the last — that was All-World, probably the best shot of my life.”

Raising his arms in triumph, Bryson DeChambeau yelled and jumped for glee before paying respect to the late Payne Stewart, the 1999 US Open champion at Pinehurst who died only a few months later.

“That’s Payne right there, baby,” DeChambeau remarked to a TV camera, pointing to a pin of Stewart on his cap.

After Brooks Koepka won the PGA Championship in 2023, the 30-year-old American became the second active player from Saudi-backed LIV Golf to win a major title.

It was an American’s sixth consecutive major win since Spain’s Jon Rahm won the Masters last year.

Americans Tony Finau and Patrick Cantlay tied for third place on 276, two strokes back of the lead, with Finau firing 67. France’s Matthieu Pavon placed fifth on 277 after a 71, one stroke ahead of Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, who shot a 70 and finished on 278.

Bryson DeChambeau responded to bogeys at the fourth and 12th holes with birdies at the par-5 10th and par-4 13th, keeping the pressure on McIlroy until he cracked.

“I felt like I struck the driver really hard. “It just wasn’t starting where I wanted to hit,” DeChambeau explained. “Ultimately, on 13, I knew I had to get Birdie there to give myself a chance because Rory was going on a heater.

“He slipped up a couple on the way coming in and I just kept staying the course, focused on trying to do as many fairways as I could.”

McIlroy finished second at the US Open for the second week in a row, and his 21st top-10 result since winning a major at the PGA Championship in 2014.

When McIlroy missed two short putts, his only misses of the day inside five feet, DeChambeau made his first three-putt bogey of the competition, lipping out a four-foot par putt at the par-3 15th to fall one back.

At the 1907 British Open, Pavon attempted to become the second Frenchman after Arnaud Massy to win a major championship, but he was unsuccessful.

World number one Scottie Scheffler, the pre-tournament favourite, shot a two-over 72 to finish on eight-over 288 for his second finish outside the top ten this year.

“I didn’t play my best. “It was a little frustrating at the end,” he stated. “I definitely need to do some things better.”

Fresh off his impressive runner-up performance at the PGA Championship, Bryson DeChambeau is back in the gym preparing for next month’s US Open, albeit with some slightly different exercises. The LIV Golf star delighted crowds as he pushed Xander Schauffele all the way in a thrilling final round at Valhalla, ultimately falling one shot short of the eventual winner.

The big-hitting American’s recent form and YouTube content have seen him garner newfound fan-favorite status. The 30-year-old is putting in the work to ensure he is ready for another crowd-pleasing display at next month’s US Open.

DeChambeau recently posted a light-hearted video on Instagram, showcasing his new gym routine designed to work on his fist pumps, autograph-signing technique, and cap tips in time for Pinehurst No. 2. These quirky exercises reflect his evolving approach to embracing his role as a showman on the course.

While his recent antics have earned him a host of new fans, DeChambeau has been frank in admitting that it has taken time to learn how to truly embrace his inner showman out on the course. “It’s actually funny, YouTube has helped me understand that a little bit more. When the moment comes, knowing what to do, what to say, how to act is really important,” he reflected after the final round at the PGA Championship.

“You know, when I was younger I didn’t understand what it was. Yeah, I would have great celebrations and whatnot, but I didn’t know what it meant and what I was doing it necessarily for. Now I’m doing it a lot more for the fans and for the people around and trying to be a bit of an entertainer that plays good golf every once in a while.”

DeChambeau will return alongside PGA Tour players for the US Open, and his presence is already being felt. Former three-time Major champion Padraig Harrington highlighted DeChambeau’s impact at the PGA Championship, noting his absence is keenly felt. “What I realized last week was, God, we miss Bryson. Like, Bryson was box office last week and really, really helped that tournament,” Harrington said on the Golf Channel. “Helped push Xander’s win on. It was fantastic, exciting, interesting watching. So we do miss those guys.”

As Bryson DeChambeau continues to prepare for the US Open with his unique and entertaining approach, fans can look forward to another thrilling performance from one of golf’s most captivating figures.
