Neeraj Chopra- Men’s Javelin Throw

Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which is the highlight of Chopra’s sporting career. His  throw of 87.58 m in the finals gave India its first gold medal in a track and field event at the Olympics.

Chopra won gold medal in men’s javelin throw in the 2023 IAAF World Athletics Championships. He also bagged gold in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast with a best shot of 86.47 m to clinch the top post. The then 20-year-old became the first Indian to win a gold medal in javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games.

Avinash Sable- Men’s 3000m Steeplechase

Avinash Sable holds the national record of 8:11.20 which he set at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where he won a silver medal for India.

At the 2019 Doha worlds, Sable finished 13th in the final where he clocked 8:21.37 to better the national record once again and consequently qualified for Tokyo Olympics 2020. Sable clinched first major gold for India medal at the 2023 Asian Games, Hangzhou in 3000 m steeplechase by clocking 8:19:20.

Murali Sreeshankar- Men’s Long Jump

Murali  Sreeshankar qualified for 2020 Tokyo Olympics by recording a jump of 8.26m, a new national record, at the Federation Cup in Patiala in March 2021. At the Olympics, he registered a jump of 7.69m in the qualifying round, but failed to enter the final.

At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, he qualified for the final round and finished seventh with a jump of 7.96 m. He won a silver medal with a jump of 8.08 metres at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and became the first male long jumper from India to win a silver medal at the Games.

He was one of the only three Indian athletes that ever made it to the top 3 in a Diamond League meet in 2022.

 

Priyanka Goswami- Women’s 20km Race Walk

Priyanka Goswami represented India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where she finished in the 17th position.  She won the silver medal in 10000 meters walk at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, becoming a first Indian woman to win a commonwealth medal in race walk in 10,000m event 

She qualified for the Paris Olympics by meeting the mark at the Indian Open National Race walking competition in Ranchi in February 2023.

Ram Baboo- Men’s 20km Race Walk

Ram Baboo won a bronze medal in the team 35 km race walk event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. His achievement garnered widespread media attention as he was working as a daily wage labourer and a waiter at a hotel even as he was training for athletics.

He had earlier established a new national record in the Men’s 35 km race walk event at the 2022 National Games in India.
