Anshu Malik is an Indian freestyle wrestler, who comes from Haryana in India. She comes from a family of wrestlers. Her father Dharamvir Malik was an international wrestler herself.

She is the first Indian wrestler to win a silver medal at the World Championships in the women’s division.

She also became the first Indian woman to reach the final of the world wrestling championships, going ahead of established players like Geeta Phogat and Vinesh Phogat.

Having started from junior championships, Malik represented India on several international stages and won multiple medals for the country.

After overcoming an injury with a long recovery period recently, she went on to win the National Wrestling Championships. She trained under Japanese wrestler Akari Fujinami in order to prepare for the Paris Olympics 2024. She participated at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and earned a quota place for India for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

 2021 World Championships

Anshu Malik won a silver medal at the 2021 World Wrestling Championships held in Oslo, Norway. The contest was in the 57 kg category.

She prevailed over Nilufar Raimova of Kazakhstan, Erkhembayaryn Davaachimeg of Mongolia, and Ukraine’s Solomiia Vynnyk to make it to the final of the championships. As fate would have it, she went down against Helen Maroulis of the USA in the finale.

2022 Commonwealth Games

Malik represented India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and settled for a silver medal in the 57 kg category.

She defeated Nethmi Poruthotage of Sri Lanka and Irene Symeonidis of Australia to reach the final. However, she lost to Odunayo Adekuoroye of Nigeria in the final.

2021 Asian Championships

The Indian grappler clinched a gold medal at the 2021 Asian Wrestling Championships held in Amalty, in the 57 kg category.

 She overcame Sevara Eshmuratova of Uzbekistan, Nazira Marsbek Kyzy (Kyrgyzstan), Altantsetsegiin Battsetseg of Mongolia and Lee Shin-hye of South Korea to make it through the summit clash.

Malik beat Altantsetsegiin Battsetseg of Mongolia to win the championship.
