Aussie opener David Warner cruised past West Indian T20 legend Chris Gayle to score the most number of fifties in T20 matches. The milestone was achieved during Australia’s match against Oman in a group clash of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

Warner smashed 56 runs off 51 balls at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados in Australia’s 36-run victory over Oman. With this the left-handed batter made his 111st fifty, surpassing Gayle’s 110 in the shortest format of the game.

Indian batting sensation Virat Kohli is placed third in the list with 105 T20 fifties. He is followed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam with 101 fifties. England’s Joss Buttler sits at 5th with 89 T20 half-centuries.

Except for Gayle, all four are playing in the ongoing T20 World Cup edition.

After a poor run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playing for the Delhi Capitals, it was a great comeback for Warner. The southpaw achieved another feat during the same match by becoming the leading run scorer for Australia in T20 Internationals. He took a lead over former teammate Aaron Finch. Warner amassed 3,115 runs in 104 T20 appearances surpassing Finch who scored 3,120 runs in 103 T20s.

Warner is also the first Australian player to feature in over 100 international matches in all three formats of the game during the clash against West Indies at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on February 9, 2024.

Warner, 37, recently confirmed that the T20 World Cup 2024 would be his final international assignment.
