The Ostrava Golden Spike Meet 2025 was the 64th edition of this prestigious World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event. The tournament concluded on 24 June 2025 at the Městský Stadion in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The Ostrava Golden Spike Meet 2025 saw Australian teenage sensation Gout Gout stunning the field in the men’s 200 meters, clocking 20.02 seconds to set a new Australian record and rise to joint sixth on the world U20 all-time list.

India’s Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra showcased his dominance in the men’s javelin throw, clinching victory with a best effort of 85.29 meters.

In a highly anticipated women’s 400 meters showdown, Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser delivered a commanding performance, winning in 49.15 seconds.

Serbia’s Adriana Vilagoš claimed the women’s javelin title at the Ostrava Golden Spike Meet 2025 with a throw of 64.87 meters, edging out Japan’s Haruka Kitaguchi (63.88m) and the Czech Republic’s Andrea Železná (60.63m).

In the women’s 100 meters, Liberia’s Thelma Davis set a national record of 10.91 seconds, with New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs (10.94) and Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith (10.92) also posting outstanding times.

Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, India’s premier javelin competition, has officially been rescheduled to 5 July 2025. The event will take place at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, marking the first-ever World Athletics ‘A’ Category or Continental Tour Gold-level meet. 

The tournament was originally scheduled for 24 May 2025 at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana. The initial venue change was due to the issues with floodlights at the Panchkula stadium. However, the event was further postponed due to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

“Bringing the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 back this quickly has taken an enormous collective effort, and we’re happy to confirm its return on July 5. Our teams have worked tirelessly, and the unwavering support from the Athletics Federation of India, the Karnataka Olympic Association, the Government of Karnataka, and our partners made this possible. The energy around this event is bigger than ever, and we’re set to deliver a celebration of javelin that’s bolder, better, and even more unforgettable,” said Karan Yadav, chief commercial officer, JSW Sports.

Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 is set to be the highlight event for Indian sports as the first World Athletics Gold Label event in the country. Neeraj Chopra, who recently won the Paris Diamond League 2025, is expected to be the star contender. However, the full line-up is also star-studded. The Rome Diamond League 2024 was the 13th event of the Wanda Diamond League Series that was held at the end of August at Stadio Olimpico. Top athletes from across the globe took part in the elite track and field competitions which was the last of the season. 

Winfred Yavi, 3000m  steeplechase runner of Bahrain, missed out on a world record by a whisker of 0.07s, as she set a new Asian record and a personal best of 8:44:39.

The Diamond League is an annual series of elite track and field athletic competitions comprising fifteen of the best invitational athletics gatherings.  The series sits on the top tier of the World Athletics one-day meet competitions.

The inaugural season of the Diamond League was held in 2010 to replace the IAAF Golden League, which had been held annually since 1998. 

While the Golden League was formed to enhance the stature of the leading European athletics competitions, the Diamond League envisioned to boost the worldwide appeal of athletics by also going outside Europe.

The Paris Olympics 2024 are going to start on July 26th. For the first time in the Olympics, the red, blue, or orange track is being used in athletics instead of the purple track, where many new records are expected to be made and old records are expected to be broken. This track can prove to be helpful for players like Neeraj Chopra and Max Dehning.

Why is the purple track being used in the Paris Olympics 2024 athletics?

The local organizers of the Paris Olympics had chosen to use purple, blue, and green. These colours will be prominent in all the venues for the games. Different shades of purple will be seen on the track, such as a lighter tone for the track, darker for the service area and brown at the end of the turn.

Talking about this, the organizers said, “We have never used this colour before. It is light purple and dark purple. It is reminiscent of the landscape of France.”

Three world records and 12 Olympic records were set at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. While there is no doubt that the players worked hard and gave their best there, Mondo Track also contributed a lot to all this. What is the Mondo Track? 

If you look closely at the Mondo Track, it looks like a hard carpet. This track consists of two layers. Its surface is made of vulcanized rubber, which provides better grip and flexibility. Apart from this, there is a layer of air-filled cavities under the outer surface, which acts as a shock absorber and also gives the right bounce. Designed in consultation with the world’s top track and field athletes, Mondo tracks are considered to be the fastest in the world.

Are more records expected on the Purple Track at the Paris Olympics in 2024?

According to Mondo trackmakers, yes! More records can be expected on the Purple Track at the Paris Olympics in 2024. For this, Mondo Group is also taking feedback from the world’s top track and field athletes. According to the information, they have also developed more elastic and cohesive granules for the outer layer of the track in Paris.

Minor details such as the shape of the air cells inside the track and the dimensions of the air pickles have been optimized. This means that, on paper, the track at the Paris Olympics 2024 is the fastest track ever in Olympic history.

Avinash Sable is an Indian track and field athlete with specialization in 3000m steeplechase. He holds the national record of 8:11.20 which he set at the 2022 Commonwealth Games 

Sable was born in a family of farmers in Maharashtra. In order to provide for his family, he joined the Indian army and was deployed at extreme weather conditions.

It was in 2025 that Sable took to running and participated in inter-army cross country running  at the insistence of his army colleagues, before switching to steeplechase.

Ever since army man took up steeplechase as a sporting career, the runner has gone on to break several national records.

At the 2019 Doha worlds, Sable finished 13th in the final where he clocked 8:21.37 to better the national record once again and consequently qualified for Tokyo Olympics 2020. Thus, Avinash Sable became the first Indian to qualify in the steeplechase event at the Olympics since Gulzara Singh Mann in 1952.

The 29-year-old failed to qualify for the finals at his debut Olympic Games. However, he would like to make amends at the Paris Olympics 2024 and make the dream of an Olympic medal come true.

“This year I am working out differently for Paris. Every year I used to start my season early, in April-May in steeplechase, and before a major event when I should have competed more to check my preparations I used to focus on training. This year, I have started late and will be peaking gradually for the Olympics”, a confident Paris-bound Sable said.

2022 Commonwealth Games

The runner won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a new national record time of 8:11.20. It was also the first time an athlete from outside Kenya had won a medal in men’s 3000 meters steeplechase at the Commonwealth Games since 1994.

2023 Asian Games

Sable clinched first major gold for India medal at the 2023 Asian Games, Hangzhou in 3000 m steeplechase. He achieved the feat by clocking 8:19:20.

2019 Asian Athletics Championships

The athlete won the silver medal at the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships in Doha, his debut international event, with a timing of 8:30.19.
