The Pan American Games 2027 are set to take place in Lima, Peru, from 16 July to 1 August 2027. The event will feature a diverse sports program. This edition marks a significant milestone, featuring 36 sports and welcoming over 7,000 athletes from 41 nations across the Americas. The selection process was notably democratic as the National Olympic Committees chose 33 sports, while the Lima 2027 Organising Committee added three more, reflecting both tradition and innovation.

Highlights Of The Pan American Games 2027

For the first time ever, cricket will be included at the Pan American Games 2027 to align with its addition to the 2028 Summer Olympics and reflect the sport’s growing popularity in the Americas.

Moreover, Basketball, breaking, bowling, and racquetball, which were featured in previous editions, have been dropped, with basketball’s absence due to a dispute between FIBA and Pan Am Sports.

The program retains core Olympic sports like athletics, swimming, gymnastics, and football, alongside regional favourites such as baseball, rugby sevens, and surfing.

The Undertaker, a popular figure in WWE for thirty years, recently named the first wrestler he would hire if he started his own wrestling company. His pick is Kane, his on-screen half-brother.

Kane, born Glenn Jacobs, worked closely with The Undertaker from 1997 to 2018. Their legendary feud in the late 1990s is still remembered as one of WWE’s best storylines. Their bond started with Kane arriving as The Undertaker’s long-lost brother, leading to some of the most dramatic matches in WWE history. Over time, they moved from fierce rivals to strong allies.

On his podcast, Six Feet Under w/ Mark Calaway, The Undertaker explained why Kane would be his top choice for a new wrestling promotion:

“People sometimes look at me funny about this, if I was to start a wrestling company on my own and I had to pick my first guy, I would pick Kane.” [21:30 – 21:39]

Kane and The Undertaker were both inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, with Kane in 2021 and The Undertaker in 2022. The Undertaker also talked about the possibility of them being inducted together as the Brothers of Destruction.

The Undertaker on Kane’s Best Qualities

Kane is known as one of the best big men in wrestling history. He retired from in-ring competition in 2018 to become the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, at 57.

The Undertaker highlighted that Kane’s calmness and professionalism make him stand out:

“One, because of the talent, he can work with anybody. Two, he knows exactly what his gimmick is, he knows what his gimmick isn’t. Three, he’s gonna do business, right? And four, he’s a human being that people wish their kids to be. So you have all of those things with him. You’ve got pretty much the total package.” [23:47 – 24:14]

The Brothers of Destruction won the World Tag Team Championship twice in 2001. Their final match as a tag team was in 2018 against Shawn Michaels and Triple H at Crown Jewel. Vinesh Phogat hails from a family of wrestlers in Haryana. She is the daughter of wrestler Rajpal Phogat and cousin of wrestlers Geeta and Babita, both internationally acclaimed wrestlers.

She rose into the global fame after overcoming challenges from society and with determination made her way into the international wrestling arena. She has successfully brought glory for India and made the nation proud.

Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at both the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. She is also the only Indian woman wrestler to clinch multiple medals at the World Wrestling Championships.

In world championship 2019 in Nur-Sultan, she bagged her maiden world championship medal in a bronze.

Phogat became the first Indian athlete to be nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards in 2019.

However, the Indian wrestler’s dream of an Olympic medal is yet to be fulfilled. Phogat made into the quarter-finals of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro but had to forfeit the match due to an injury that she sustained during the bout against Sun Yanan of China.

Phogat faced a similar scenario at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she competed in the 53 kg category in the quarterfinals but was defeated Belarusian Vanesa Kaladzinskaya.

Asian Games 2018 Jakarta

Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian female wrestler to clinch a gold medal at the Asian Games. She won a gold in the 2018 Asian Games in the 53 kg category.

Atfter having won her quarterfinal and semifinal bout without losing a point, she was determined when she faced Japan’s Yuki Ire in the final.

Commonwealth Games 2022
